The Mazda3 is unchanged for 2016, though Mazda have added a couple of optional equipment packages to the vehicle for this year. A preferred equipment package is now available on the base Sport trim, adding 16-inch alloy wheels, nicer seat upholstery, heated, power mirrors with built in turn signals, rain sensing wipers, automatic headlights, rear cross traffic alert and a blind spot warning system. Meanwhile, on the mid-level Touring trim, a new popular equipment package is also available for 2016. It includes a premium Bose 9-speaker stereo, SiriusXM satellite radio and a dual-zone climate control system. A backup camera is also standard for 2016.

Following a complete redesign in 2014, the Mazda3 sees only minor changes, though the Mazda3 's' trims are now available with a 6-speed manual transmission.

Following a complete remodel for 2010, the Mazda3 gains some new standard features. Stability control and power door locks are now standard on 3i SV and 3i Sport sedans, while hatchback and sedan 3s Sport models equipped with the automatic transmission can now be ordered with rain-sensing wipers, LED taillights and automatic, adaptive bi-xenon headlights. In the 3s Grand Touring, a 265-watt Bose sound system and 6-disc CD changer become standard, as does a power sunroof.

The Mazda3 has been completely remodeled for 2010. Compared to the outgoing version, the new Mazda3 has upgraded safety, more standard features and optional equipment and enhanced refinement.

The Mazda3 received a number of changes in equipment and features halfway through the 2008 model year, and these continue into the 2009 model year. A new i Touring Value model was introduced, and the standard features list on the Grand Touring models was expanded to include a power driver's seat as well. Sirius Satellite Radio with an introductory subscription is now included with the navigation system, and the interiors of the s trim and MazdaSpeed3 models have been slightly revised.

For 2008, the popular Mazda3 sees an important safety upgrade: standard on all s trim cars will be front seat side-impact air bags, as well as full-length side curtain air bags. Superficial changes include new colors like Golden Sand, Copper Red, Stormy Blue, and Metropolitan Gray, while True Red is unique to the MAZDASPEED3. All five-door models feature a revised rear bumper, and Grand Touring models now have standard power seats. Coming later in 2008 will be a new trim level--i Touring Value, which replaces the i Touring. For 2007, a high-performance Mazdaspeed3 joins the Mazda3 lineup. On all variants, the body shell has been upgraded for 2007, with improved local rigidity for a stiffer, safer body and improved handling; the suspension has also been retuned for better stability. Also, audio systems have been upgraded with auxiliary input jacks, 12-volt power outlets are now standard, and new rear-seat armrests have integrated cupholders. Also, minor changes to the sedan's trunklid and bumper trim allow easier opening and loading.
