About RX

Introduced for the 1999 model year, the RX represented luxury brand Lexus' first car-like premium crossover vehicle. An attractively-styled crossover vehicle, the 1999 Lexus RX also included a well-crafted interior featuring standard features such as side-impact airbags. Classified as the RX 300 through the first generation, the Lexus crossover utility was powered by a 3.0-liter V-6 engine. A satellite navigation system was introduced to the RX 300 in 2000 while Vehicle Skid Control was added as standard equipment in 2001. For 2004, the Lexus RX underwent a massive redesign. Not only receiving a more sophisticated look, the larger crossover became the RX 330 featuring an enlarged six-cylinder engine. Serving as a monumental vehicle for Lexus, a gasoline/electric powertrain debuted on the RX for 2006. Called the RX 400h, the first premium crossover hybrid sold in the United States could achieve fuel economy of 33 miles per gallon in city driving environments through the combination of a 3.3-liter V-6 engine with three electric motors. In 2007, RX 350 replaced the RX 330 now featuring a 270-horsepower powerplant. A third generation Lexus RX arrived for 2010 with modernized styling, upgraded luxury and safety equipment as well as improved powerplants. The 2010 RX 350 received a minor performance boost while a new RX 450h sported a combined system output of 295 horsepower. Obtaining an updated front grille and eight-speed automatic transmission in 2013, a complete restyle was carried out in 2016.
