Lamborghini Gallardo Model Years and History

Following minor styling revisions last year, and ahead of its replacement by the new Huracan, the 2014 Lamborghini Gallardo bows out with just one limited-edition model, the LP 570-4 Squadra Corse, a coupe inspired by the LP 570-4 Super Trofeo single-marque race series. It will be offered only in Giallo Midas (yellow) for $265,000. Just 15 cars will be available in the U.S. market.

Some slight styling revisions are about the only thing that changes for the 2013 Gallardo. Last year's Trofeo Stradale has been replaced with an "Edizione Tecnnica."

While the LP570-4 Gallardo Coupe and Spyder models carry over essentially unchanged, a new track-focused LP570-4 Superleggera and convertible version, the LP570-4 Spyder Performante models are the big news for the Gallardo lineup in 2011.

There are no major changes to the Gallardo LP560s from the 2009 lineup. New this year will be the limited edition Valentino Balboni coupe, named after the man who has been at Lamborghini for more than four decades and who was instrumental in designing the Gallardo. Only 250 of these coupes will be produced for 2010 and will be available with rear-wheel drive only, in an effort to bring back some of the glory of bygone racing days.

Lamborghini's popular Gallardo hits the ground running in 2009. Gone is the Superleggera, as well as last year's base model, and in their place is the Gallardo LP560-4 in both coupe and Spyder form. Their 5.2L, 553-horsepower V10 replaces the outgoing 5.0L unit and its 520 horses. Suspension has been revised for an even sportier feel, and subtle styling treatment to the front and rear update the supercar's angular looks. The Lambo's slick semi-automatic transmission known as "e.gear" has been revised to deliver gear changes up to 40% faster, according to the manufacturer. The system now also incorporates a launch control called "Thrust Mode." Overall, the 2009 Gallardo weighs about 45 pounds less than its predecessor, and Lamborghini calls it good to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds, with a top speed of 202 mph.

New for 2008 is the limited edition Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera. As performance oriented as the Gallardo is, the Superleggera supersedes the "base" model, resulting in a more track-focused machine that can still be enjoyed on the street. As alluded to by its name ("leggera" means "light" in Italian), the Superleggera sheds 154 pounds through the use of carbon fiber components, such as mirrors, door panels, the engine and central tunnel covering, the rear diffuser, and the underbody covering. Decreasing the weight to power ratio even further is a 10-horsepower increase over the regular Gallardo's 5.0L V10, which was accomplished by utilizing more efficient intake and exhaust systems.

Two new body colors are available for the Lamborghini Gallardo for 2007--Celeste Phoebe and Verde Picus--and a new interior scheme is now offered with Marrone Janus (brown) and Bianco Polar contrasts along with coordinated Marrone Janus carpets. Silver "Callisto" or titanium "Cassiopea" wheels are now available as part of the "Privilegio" customization program, plus yellow or silver brake calipers. Also, the special-edition "Nera" is being offered in a limited edition of 185 vehicles worldwide; it includes a special matte-black exterior, black-and-white interior, and several special features such as a height-adjustable suspension. Also, later in the model year, the Spyder will be available in new top colors other than black, including blue, gray, and beige.
