The Kia Optima enters into its 2020 model year without a lot of additions or changes. A few items from the technology package such as a wireless phone charger are now standard on the 2020 car. The vehicle remains otherwise unaltered.

Introduced alongside a brand-new Optima sedan constructed a bold and aggressive platform, the 2011 Optima Hybrid's styling was largely identical to the conventional gasoline-powered model. Kia's first application of a hybrid powerplant in the United States featured a 2.4-liter Atkinson cycle four-cylinder gasoline engine working in unison with an electric motor fueled by a 270-volt lithium-polymer battery. The full parallel hybrid system collectively generates 199 horsepower while providing fuel economy of 39 miles per gallon during highway driving. Offered in only LX trim with equipment packages for 2011 and 2012, an EX trim was added for 2013 including standard HID headlights as well as a panoramic sunroof. A 2017 redesign of the Kia Optima Hybrid employs a more fuel efficient powertrain said to obtain average fuel economy of 42 miles per gallon. 2017 also includes the introduction of a plug-in hybrid Optima capable of travelling up to 27 miles on full electric power thanks to a larger battery pack.
