2017 Kia Niro trims

2017 Niro

The Kia Niro is an all-new compact SUV. Kia has combined the driving position, space and aesthetics of a crossover vehicle, with the kind of fuel economy that can only be produced by a hybrid drivetrain. It's a relatively new concept as automakers have previously focused their hybrid SUV efforts on full size vehicles, increasing awful mileage numbers into the realm of being merely poor. The Niro offers genuine 50+ mpg performance in a package that's easy to drive in the city, but that still offers the kind of space and utility one would expect from a crossover vehicle.

About Niro

A crossover-like wagon, Kia's creation of the Niro exhibits a high level of efficient versatility. Debuting in the 2017 model year, the Kia Niro became the South Korean auto brand's first dedicated hybrid gasoline/electric vehicle sold in the United States. A 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine equipped with gasoline direct injection technology combined with an AC synchronous permanent magnet electric motor is used to propel the new 2017 Niro. Generating a combined output of 139 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque, the gasoline/electric powertrain can allow the Kia Niro to reach 52 miles per gallon in city driving. Designed partly at Kia's design center in California, the styling direction for the Niro has been described as an "Un-Hybrid" creation. A well-defined exterior design resting on a 106.3-inch wheelbase, the overall shape invokes functionality. The outer appearance of the Kia Niro is complemented by a roomy interior featuring 19.4 cubic feet of luggage space while accommodating five passengers comfortably. Offered in FE, LX, EX and Touring trim levels, the Niro hybrid vehicle comes standard equipped with a Drive Mode Select system, dual-zone climate control and Kia's UVO eServices infotainment system. For 2017, a special Launch Edition version of the Niro Touring model has been prepared with unique features. Charcoal colored interior, 18-inch Hyper Gray alloy wheels and black-colored roof rails are included on the Touring Launch Edition.
