The Limited and Trailhawk trims both add standard adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist. The previous manual transmission option is no longer available.

2017 Compass

The Jeep Compass has been completely redesigned for 2017. It now shares its exterior styling with the larger Cherokee, including the clamshell hood, dramatic roofline and sculpted fenders and shoulders. Power comes from Jeep's proven 2.4L Tigershark 4-cylinder, which now makes 180 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque, figures that are up 8 hp and 10 lb-ft, respectively. With stop-start technology, it can return up to 30 mpg on the highway. The new Compass is offered in both 4x2 and 4x4 models, and transmissions include 6-speed manual and automatic choices as well as a class-exclusive 9-speed automatic.

2014 Compass

The Jeep Compass receives minor updates for 2014. Chief among them is a switch from the continuously variable transmission (CVT) of years past to a new 6-speed automatic with a manual shifting mode. Elsewhere, Jeep added a new acoustic-laminate windshield to help cut down on road noise, new bi-halogen projector headlamps to improve nighttime forward visibility, body color side mirrors, and chrome accents on the grille surrounds and fog lamp bezels. Finally, Jeep has added seat-mounted side airbags as standard on all Compass models.

The 2011 Jeep Compass gets a styling update for 2011, with sharper front end lines looking much like those on the Grand Cherokee. All sheetmetal from the windshield forward has been updated, with new front and rear fascias as well. Jeep also fitted more sound insulation as well as suspension improvements, helping to create more of a solid and quiet feel on the road, and greater off-road capabilities have also been added to go along with the more rugged look. 2011 also sees a long list of added standard features as well as an interior redesign.

As it turns three years old, Jeep's 2009 Compass will see changes mostly in its interior, where a new center console features a split lid for extra storage space. New door trim gets extra padding and soft-touch plastic, and the instruments now feature LED gauges. Revised air vents, illuminated cupholders and a carpeted cargo floor are now standard. A 30-gigabyte hard drive for music storage is a new option. Improved sound insulation in the floor and engine compartment, as well as a revamped exhaust resonator, should help reduce road noise. Sport models have a revised suspension for improved ride and handling. Finally, front-wheel drive Compass models equipped with the continuously variable transmission (CVT) are now certified as partial-zero emissions vehicles (PZEV).

In its second model year, the Jeep Compass gets a wide range of changes to its lists of standard and available equipment lists for 2008. Most notably, air conditioning is now standard across the model line, and a navigation system is newly available on the top Limited model. A newly available Special Equipment Group "E" package brings stain-resistant fabric, carpeted floor mats, and cruise control, and a Safety and Convenience Group brings a garage door opener, an auto-dimming mirror, an information center, and an alarm system. Also, the Security and Convenience Group now includes the UConnect hands-free communication system, the Trailer Tow Prep Group now adds a full-size spare tire, and the Premium Sound Group adds Sirius satellite radio. The Compass's engine and transmission have received some calibration changes to help reduce noise, and the CVT automatic transmission is now equipped with an Auto Stick function, which allows some driver control of the gear ratio. The interior has been brightened up a bit with new chrome trim inside on the door locks, door handles, and radio knobs. Finally, there are also several color changes: Brilliant Black Crystal Pearl replaces Black Clear Coat and Surf Blue Pearl replaces Marine Blue Pearl; Sunburst Orange Pearl is new.

The Jeep Compass is new for 2007. Based on the Dodge Caliber, Jeep added their signature seven-slot grille and round headlights, increased the ride height, and added Jeep's Freedom Drive system. The Compass utilizes Daimler Chrysler's 2.4L four-cylinder World engine with variable valve timing, generating 172 horsepower and 165 lb-feet of torque. A five-speed manual transmission is standard but a continuously variable transmission (CVT) is optional for those looking to rest their left foot.

About Compass

Jeep officially introduced the Compass in 2007,showcasing a brand new mid-sized economy SUV that offered entry-level featuresand an affordable price tag with plenty of add-ons for scrupulous buyers. In2008, Jeep made some changes to the Compass, making A/C and chrome accentsstandard on the base model.

 

The company also added GPS for the Limited trim andupdated the engine and transmission to make for a quieter ride. In 2009, Jeepoverhauled the design of the Compass, including redesigning the dashboard andadding higher quality materials to the build. The carmaker also added a USBjack and optional music storage hard drive. In 2010, the Jeep rolled out the first manualtransmission Compass for the 2.0-liter engine. Active head restraints alsobecame standard, and climate control was offered on the Limited trim withremote start and continuously variable transmission (CVT) options available.

 

 

In2011, Jeep updated the style of the Compass and improved its handling, addingthe Off-Road package and options for skid plates and different tires. The 2012 Jeep Compass offered three trim levels andfeatured a newly recalibrated CVT system for better handling. No significantchanges were made to the 2013 Compass. In 2014, Jeep introduced a six-speedautomatic transmission for the Compass that replaced the CVT (for most trims).The carmaker also updated the style and added the option for a backup cameraand 6.5 touchscreen in the Limited. Jeep also made front-seat side airbagsstandard for all models and trims.
