Jaguar XK Model Years and History

The Jaguar XK carries over into 2015 without any significant changes.

The Jaguar XK is largely unchanged for 2014, though a new, even more potent trim joins the ranks in the form of the XKR-S GT. The XKR-S GT comes with all the standard equipment of the XKR-S but also adds carbon ceramic braking, a custom track-ready suspension, forged 20-inch alloy wheels, unique carbon and aluminum aerodynamic ground effects and special Polaris White paint with dual black hood stripes. Jaguar estimates a time of 3.9 seconds for the dash to 60 mph. The exclusive GT is priced from $174,000 and will be limited to just 25 U.S. examples.

The redesigned XK features new front and rear styling. Slimmer headlights incorporating LEDs replace the old units, while a new front grill significantly cleans up the look of the car while also keeping it recognizably a Jaguar. Five new colors have been added and a couple of new option packs are also available for increased customization. The XKR-S has also been introduced as an ultra-high performance model, positioned above the XKR. It is the most powerful road car Jaguar has ever built and promises to take driving excitement to another level.

A new "Dynamic Pack" package available on the XKR includes 20-inch wheels, red brake calipers, high-performance tuned suspension, a bigger rear spoiler and a higher top speed. The 75th Anniversary XKR has been dropped for 2012. In its place, a new XKR-S debuts, which adds 20-inch wheels, active exhaust with quad tips and dark exterior trim and 40 more horsepower out of the 5.0L supercharged V8.

After a fairly thorough refresh in 2010, the XK and XKR get few updates in 2011. There is a new "Black Pack" available for both the coupe and convertible XKR models, with more aerodynamic bodywork and 20-inch alloy wheels. It's available in three colors too: Polaris White, Ultimate Black and Stratus Grey. The XKR175 limited-edition coupe celebrates the company's 75th anniversary. How limited? Only 175 will be produced, the car features a top speed of 174 mph, nearly 20 mph more than the base XK's 155 mph.

The superb Jaguar XK and XKR receive several notable changes for 2010 including two new 5.0-liter engines in place of last year's 4.2L V8s. In the base XK, a new 5.0L V8 makes 385 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque, while the supercharged XKR makes 510 horsepower and 461 pound-feet of torque. Exterior changes have also been made, including a more aggressive grille treatment in the XKR, LED taillights and an updated rear spoiler. Inside, the JaguarDrive rotary gear selector, first used on the XF, makes its XK debut and a number of previously optional features have now become standard. The XKR also gets a new active rear differential, which helps control power and sends torque to the wheel with the most grip rather than using braking force as in the 2009 model.

The superb Jaguar XK was redesigned for 2007 and undergoes little change for 2008. Base prices for the coupe and convertible are unchanged, while the up-level XKR versions increase just $200. On the XKRs, a new Portfolio Package is available for $12,000 in either aluminum or walnut themes and include, among other goodies, 20-inch staggered-width wheels and tires with a new high-performance braking system, a 525-watt sound system with Bowers & Wilkins speakers, Sirius satellite radio, soft grain leather seating, and aluminum side vents.

The XK is Jaguar's all new two-door model for 2007, replacing the ten-year-old XK8. Made mostly of aluminum, the new XK is significantly stiffer than before, and the venerable 4.2L V8 engine has been tweaked to be more refined and powerful. Jaguar improved the six-speed sequential transmission and added paddle shifters and the re-vamped eCATS system actively adjusts the suspension to keep the ride smooth yet sporty. The interior is roomier than before and comes with a new DVD-based navigation system. The model lineup remains similar to the XK8, with normally aspirated and supercharged engines available in either a coupe or convertible.
