For 2010, INFINITI's M35 and M45 flagship sedans receive only minor changes. The INFINITI Mobile Entertainment System Package is now included as part of the Premium Package, though that package is no longer available on the M35 models. African Rosewood interior trim is no longer available with the Sport Package and Lakeshore Slate, Desert Shadow and Sahara Sandstone exterior colors have been deleted.

For 2009, the M35 and M35x receive the 303-horsepower V6 from the second-generation G35 sedan in place of 2008's 273-horsepower units, and a new 7-speed automatic transmission is available on rear-wheel drive M35 models. Auto speed sensing locks, a Drive Sport (DS) shift mode for all transmissions, and Scratch Shield self-healing clearcoat finishes are now standard.

For 2008, a new all-wheel-drive M45x model joins the existing INFINITI M35x all-wheel drive model and the rear-wheel drive M35 and M45 models. A newly available lane departure prevention system helps improve safety. Previous M35 and M45 Sport models have been replaced by an optional Sport Package, which brings styling differences, rear active steer, and 19-inch sport wheels and tires. The M also gets a number of enhancements, such as a revised front and rear appearance, reshaped fenders and decklid, redesigned fog lamps, new chrome trim, and new 18- and 19-inch wheel designs. Six of the eight available exterior colors are new. Inside, the changes are equally pronounced, with new "Fine Vision" electroluminescent gauges, a revised center console, a new full gray interior color, new door trim, and new wood trim and aluminum texturing throughout. Instrument panel lighting is now in white and violet hues, and the available hard drive navigation system, with integrated digital music system, has been upgraded with XM NavTraffic live traffic-information.

The INFINITI M sedans, fresh off a redesign, enter 2007 with a few new option packages and more standard features. A new Advanced Technology Package adds a Bose surround sound system, intelligent cruise control, a lane departure warning system, and satellite radio, while the Premium Package is no longer available on the all-wheel-drive and Sport M35. The Journey Package has been removed from the M45 and all-wheel-drive M35 sedans. Climate controlled seats are new standard equipment on the M45, as are automatic and adaptive xenon headlights.

Assigned to a coupe and convertible from 1990 to 1992, the 2003 INFINITI M45 was marketed as a high-end, four-door sport sedan. A distant, rear-wheel drive model, the M45's positioning in the INFINITI line-up was as a performance-oriented alternative to the Q45 sedan. In fact, the 2003 INFINITI M45's power came from the same VK45DE eight-cylinder engine. The 32-valve, 4.5-liter V-8 powerplant generated 340 horsepower and was connected to a five-speed automatic transmission. Heavily equipped with standard amenities, the first generation INFINITI M45 included HID headlights, heated mirrors, front and side airbags as well as a 225-watt Bose premium audio system was included. The introduction of a second generation M45 in 2006 with a new athletic appearance, the luxurious vehicle was available with Rear Active Steer. Solely offered as a rear-wheel drive sedan from 2003 to 2007, the 2008 INFINITI M45x provided all-wheel drive for the first time. The INFINITI M45 was dropped after the 2010 model year in favor of an upgraded M56 sedan.
