Ford Transit Passenger Wagon Model Years and History

The 2026 Ford Transit Passenger Wagon carries over with some changes into 2026 including an additional 3.5L EcoBoost engine option, a standard 8 inch cluster display, a standard 12 inch multimedia center and standard Ford Co-Pilot360 on all models.

For 2021, the Ford Transit gains some upgrades for towing capacity, three new exterior color options and an electric parking brake is now standard on all single rear-wheel variants.

The Ford Transit returns for 2020 with quite a few notable changes. Among them include welcome comforts such as an available power-sliding cargo door, WiFi capabilities, Android Auto/Apple Carplay-capable infotainment systems, and a 4.2-Inch digital readout in the gauge cluster. The base 3.7L V6 engine has been replaced by a more economical 3.5L V6. Ford has also introduced a new bi-turbo 2.0L diesel engine replacing the 3.2L 5-cylinder diesel engine from previous years. Whatever the drivetrain, a 10-speed transmission is now also standard across the board with available all-wheel-drive that brings the Transit up to speed with its rival the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. A new 5-passenger Crew Van configuration is also new this year, mounting a 3-seat second-row bench in front of a cargo bulkhead, with curtain airbag protection for all outboard passengers.

The Ford Transit returns for 2018 with a few more standard features for buyers of the highly versatile workhorse. Medium and High-Roof versions of the Ford Transit now come with a high-mount rear view camera to assist in reversing, while all Transits now get some additional LED interior lighting around the rear door handles.

For 2017, the Ford Transit gains a walk-through center console, along with optional power running boards, while the SYNC 3 infotainment system is now standard on top models.

Following its introduction in 2015, the Transit gets only a few changes for the new model year. A backup camera is now standard across all trim levels while interior lighting has been improved with a new dome lamp and map reading lights. Four new colors are available this year as well: Shadow Black, Magnetic, Race red and Caribou.
