Chevrolet Suburban Model Years and History

The Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban carry over into 2026 with minimal changes.

For 2025, the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban get a refreshed exterior.

For 2024, the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban carry over with minimal changes.

For 2023, the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban carry over with minimal changes although both get Super Cruise as an available option on the Z71 and Premier Trims.

For 2022, the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban receive a few minor changes to content and packages, the LS trim gets an 8-inch touchscreen, an active lane departure and warning system while front and rear parking sensors are now standard across all trims.

For 2021, the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban receives a complete overhaul from top to bottom. This includes a redesigned exterior as well reengineered platform and suspension. Chevrolet is now offering its prevalent Duramax diesel engine as an available option for buyers. Both models for 2021, have increased their overall length for extra leg room and cargo space.

The Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe remain unchanged for 2020, save for a couple of new optional 22-inch wheel designs for this year.

For the 2019 model year, the Chevrolet Tahoe remains unchanged, while the Suburban receives a few updates. The 2019 Suburban with the RST Performance Package now gets a 6.2L V8 engine and a 10-speed automatic transmission.

The biggest news for 2018 is the addition of a new RST package that can be had on either the Tahoe or the Suburban, sprucing up the exterior of the vehicle. The RST package includes 22-inch wheels, a blacked out grill, body-colored door handles, black mirror caps and black roof rails. The Tahoe also gets an optional performance package available to buyers who choose both the premium trim and the RST package. LED daytime running lamps become standard for this year.

The Suburban and Tahoe get a few tweaks for 2017, but are largely the same as last year. LTZ models are now known as "Premier." Heated and ventilated seats are now standard.

After a full redesign for 2015, the Tahoe and the Suburban remain mostly unchanged for 2016. Still, some additional refinement and features are offered this year. An enhanced Driver Alert Package is available that includes adjustable pedals, IntelliBeam headlamps and a Lane Keep Assist function. A heads-up display system is also new for 2016 and available on select models. New standard features include an 8-inch color touchscreen, which controls the radio and the OnStar system.

Chevrolet's full-size Suburban and Tahoe SUVs, have been completely redesigned for 2015. While these models are essentially the same size on the outside as those that they replace, GM has re-engineered these trucks for much-improved refinement and ride quality--as well as more power and higher towing capability. Both model lines get new Chevrolet MyLink touch-screen connectivity in most of their trim levels. Meanwhile, second- and third-row seating has been revamped to include the convenience of a fold-flat arrangement, for added cargo versatility. Additionally, Suburban models get a little more legroom for those in the second row, while a new dual-screen rear entertainment system with Blu-ray DVD player is offered in the Suburban. Otherwise keyless entry and push-button start are both new and widely available in both the Suburban and Tahoe lineups, as are other new convenience features, like adaptive cruise control.

For 2014, LS Tahoe and Suburban models get a few more convenience features including power adjustable pedals, a remote starter, rear parking assist and a rear view camera.

The Tahoe and Suburban come into 2013 with only minor changes, including several new exterior colors and the deletion of others, as well as Powertrain Grade Braking, which uses engine torque to help slow the trucks on descents.

The Tahoe and Suburban come into 2012 with only a few changes. The LT on both the Tahoe and Suburban gets standard heated seats, and a new All-Star Edition includes heated power mirrors, polished wheels, heavy-duty trailering and chrome trim. The LTZ gets a standard heated steering wheel.

Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid models for 2011 get the latest Gen 9.0 version of OnStar for better voice recognition. Head restraints for the second row have been revised. On 2011 Tahoe and Suburban models, a better trailer brake controller is introduced for 2011 and new chrome-clad wheels are now available. Across all Tahoe, Tahoe Hybrid and Suburban model lines, Mocha Steel Metallic is a new exterior color, while Steel Green Metallic and Ice Blue Metallic are also added to the non-hybrid Tahoe and Suburban.

For 2010, the Chevy Tahoe and its larger sibling, the Suburban, see few changes. The Suburban drops the 2LT trim level, leaving only the LS, LT and LTZ. The Tahoe is no longer offered with the 4.8 or 6.2 liter V8 engines, leaving the 5.3-liter V8 as the sole powerplant for non-hybrid versions. A 6-speed automatic is the only transmission available on both models. Other updates include several equipment changes, such as new audio systems with standard USB ports and the addition of front side air bags to the list of standard equipment.

For 2009, the Chevy Tahoe and its larger sibling, the Suburban, see few changes. The Tahoe gets a new six-speed transmission. Bluetooth hands-free connectivity is now standard on Tahoe and Suburban, with several minor options changes, package reshuffles and a few new exterior colors now available on both models as well.

After being completely redesigned for 2007, both the Chevy Tahoe and its longer sibling, the Suburban, see only minor changes for 2008. The 40/20/40-split bench seat in LS models gets a new center-section storage space, along with center console wood grain trim and brighter pointers for the gauge cluster. Head curtain side air bags, formerly optional on some models, are now standard on every Tahoe and Suburban. The big news for the Tahoe lineup is the addition of a new Hybrid model. Using GM's new 2-Mode full hybrid system, the Hybrid gets 21 mpg in city driving--a 50-percent improvement versus the standard model. On heavy-duty Suburban 2500 models, StabiliTrak electronic stability control is newly standard, as is a six-speed automatic transmission, and new 17-inch wheels. Two new exterior colors, Blue Granite and Deep Ruby Metallic, join the line.

Based on Chevy's redesigned pickup chassis, the 2007 Tahoe and Suburban are completely redesigned. Both vehicles have a new streamlined body and a stronger, stiffer frame with the standard 4.8L V8 engine getting ten more horsepower and ten more lb-ft of torque. A new active fuel management system helps increase fuel economy by about 10%. The new Tahoe features 4.3 more cubic feet of cargo room over last year, while 17-inch wheels are now standard on the LS model and 20-inchers are standard on the LTZ. Inside, the LS trim now has a power driver seat and XM satellite radio.
