Chevrolet Malibu Maxx Model Years and History

Not quite a wagon, not quite a hatchback, the Chevrolet Malibu Maxx provided expanded interior cargo space compared to the sedan. Introduced in 2004, the Malibu Maxx was ideal for drivers who wanted an alternative to small sport utility and crossover vehicles with some European flair. The five-door 2004 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx was six inches longer than the sedan. The added length as well as the wagon-like roof profile allows the Malibu Maxx to accommodate 7.4 cubic feet more cargo than the four-door Malibu. Loadable through a swing-up liftgate, 22.8 cubic feet of cargo room was offered while still allowing five passengers to ride onboard, When the rear seat bench is folded down, the 2004 Malibu Maxx achieved a maximum cargo volume of 41 cubic feet. Power for the 2004 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx was derived from a 200-horsepower 3.5-liter V-6 engine.

 

Initially offered in base, LS and LT trim levels, four-wheel anti-lock disc braking, cruise control, power door locks, air conditioning and an AM/FM stereo with CD player was standard in 2004. The 2006 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx SS model gave the practical vehicle some considerable performance style. Propelled through a 3.9-liter V-6 engine generating 240 horsepower and 240 pound-foot of torque, the 2006 Malibu Maxx SS was also with a unique grille appearance, a sport-tuned suspension, 18-inch wheels and well-bolstered sport seating. In 2007, a more powerful 217 horsepower 3.5-liter powerplant was incorporated with the Malibu Maxx. Featuring variable valve timing, the 2007 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx obtained fuel economy of 22 miles per gallon city and 30 miles per gallon highway. When the Chevrolet Malibu sedan was redesigned in 2008, the Malibu Maxx model was discontinued.
