About ELR

The Cadillac capable of running on electric power only, the electric/gasoline plug-in hybrid ELR is a luxury car with an environmental consciousness. Based on the same platform as the Chevrolet Volt, the Cadillac ELR two-door coupe was heavily inspired by the Converi concept car first shown in 2009. As a premium plug-in hybrid vehicle, the ELR features a lightweight yet luxury-tailored handling supplied with HiPer front struts and Continuous Damping Control system. Combining a 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor, total performance of the Cadillac ELR is rated at 217 horsepower. Electric-only driving is accomplished through the energy stored in a 16.5 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The 2014 Cadillac ELR can be driven up to 37 miles on electrical power alone before the gasoline engine takes over. Fully charging the electric power system of the ELR can be undertaken in as little as five hours when connected through a 240-volt charging unit. The driver of the ELR is provided with augmentable performance with selectable driving modes. Sport, Tour, Mountain and Hold function configures the plug-in hybrid powerplant to run differently to suit specific driving scenarios. Couple with the advanced powertrain, the Cadillac ELR is equipped with a long list of included amenities. For an immediate sensation of high-class luxury, LED headlights and 20-inch wheels are standard exterior features. Inside, the 2+2 passenger cabin of the ELR is richly appointed with leather as well as the choice of wood or carbon fiber accents. Serving as the centerpiece for infotainment inside two-door plug-in hybrid is Cadillac CUE. Operating from an eight-inch touchscreen, CUE provides navigation functions, is Bluetooth enabled to accept up to 10 devices and has USB as well as SD card media slots. Along with through the touchscreen, CUE also provides speech recognition for hands-free control. Some early models of the ELR were sold during the 2013 holiday season through a high-end department store as part of the Saks Holiday Catalog.
