2006 MINI Ratings, Reviews and Awards
The first-generation variants of MINI’s hardtop hatchback body styles had their last hurrah in 2006, but not for long. The company swiftly began production on their second generation for release in the 2007 model year, boasting a new platform and engine tweaks. Still, MINI gave focus to the famous Cooper this year, adding in some new packages and making important tweaks to the trims to keep the car modern yet true to its roots. The Cooper received a new Checkmate package that boosted the interior and exterior with various updates, plus a Premium package with a panoramic sunroof, multi-function steering wheel, and trip computer. MINI also gave Cooper owners an exciting announcement that the limited-edition John Cooper Works package, which adds extra horsepower, a convertible power top, and a Harmon Kardon sound system, could now be installed in the factory rather than needing a special dealer installation.
