Mercury applies to additional allure for upscale families for 2004. Reviving a name previously used by Mercury for larger cars from the 1950s to the 1970s, the brand's newest minivan debuts. Instead of being based on the Nissan Quest (as was the case with the retired Villager), the seven-passenger Monterey is constructed on the foundation used by the new Ford Freestar. The 2004 Mercury Monterey is powered exclusively by a 4.2-liter V-6 engine. The family-oriented Mercury Sable sedan and wagon sport an updated exterior appearance with a new front fascia. 2004 Sable sedans also featured revised styling at the rear. For improved handling when cornering or for making sudden steering moves, AdvanceTrac electronic stability control is now optional on the 2004 Mercury Mountaineer. No major changes have occurred on the Mercury Grand Marquis or Marauder for 2004.
