The Chevrolet line-up expands for 2004 with two vehicles filling segments neglected by the brand in recent years. Presented as a new hyper economy offering, Chevrolet introduces the Asian market-derived Aveo subcompact car. Offered as a sedan or a hatchback, the Chevrolet Aveo will be the lowest cost option with the bowtie brand in 2004. An alternative to their truck-based mid-sized sport utility vehicles, Chevrolet officially enters into the crossover utility vehicle in 2004. The all-new 2004 Chevrolet Equinox is designed to provide the look and practicality associated with a sport utility vehicle on a car-like chassis for optimized on-road handling. A crucial redesign of the Chevrolet Malibu mid-sized sedan as well as an all-new, wagon-like Malibu Maxx is also part of the 2004 brand line-up. Ecotec four-cylinder engine power associated with the Cavalier will be standard on the new Malibu. The previous version of the Malibu is still offered as fleet vehicle under the Malibu Classic name. For 2004, the S-10 has been replaced by the all-new larger Colorado pickup truck developed jointly with Isuzu.
