Dropping the compact Tracer, the 2000 Mercury lineup is now a collection of six vehicles exhibiting upmarket traits. The Mercury Sable has been treated to a restyling in 2000 that greatly matures the family vehicle appearance thanks to a larger, more upright grille. This design revision also tones down some of the more radical interior and exterior styling cues of the previous Sable. The 2000 Mercury Sable returns as both a sedan and wagon. Completely redesigned in 1999, the Mercury Villager minivan adds standard keyless entry and the availability of a new, VCR-based rear-seat entertainment system for 2000. Monterey and Premiere luxury packages have been introduced to the 2000 Mercury Mountaineer consisting of specialized premium touches. An emergency release system is now installed inside the trunk of the 2000 Sable, Cougar, Mystique and Grand Marquis.
