In 2003, Isuzu revealed the seven-passenger Ascender, modeled after the popular GMC Envoy. It offered a roomy interior and a powerful V8 engine. In 2004, after strong sales the year before, Isuzu released a five-passenger version of the Ascender, making no changes to its seven-passenger model. The company also offered a few added trims to both model lines. In 2005, XM Satellite Radio was included as an option and a side curtain airbag system was also added to increase the safety rating. The car also saw a boost in speed of five total horsepower. In 2006, the carmaker added stability control to the model as well as a few more package upgrades for buyers. In 2007,
Isuzu discontinued the extended wheelbase version, making no other changes to the Ascender. In 2008, the last year of production, a few new packages were offered for upgrading the cabin, and the side curtain airbags were also updated.
