The 612 Scaglietti was the first twelve-cylinder Ferrari production vehicle to feature an all-aluminum chassis and body supplied in partnership with Alcoa. Propelled by the same powerplant used on the 575M Maranello, the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti received power from a 532-horsepower 5.7-liter V12. In addition to the standard six-speed manual transmission, the 612 Scaglietti was also available with a paddle-shifting, six-speed F1-type gearbox. In 2008, the Ferrari 612 Scagliettis F1-type transmission was enhanced for quicker shift response times as new software allowed gear changes to occur in 100 milliseconds. Acceleration from 0 to 62 miles per hour for the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti was rated at four seconds while the top speed was just under 200 miles per hour.
Situated on a wheelbase 13.7 inches longer than the 456M it replaced, the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti 2+2 seating proved more comfortable for rear seat riders. Natural full-grain leathers and aluminum are handcrafted to premium detail were applied inside the 612 Scaglietti for high-grade travel. In 2008, the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti added a Bose entertainment system providing a various multimedia tasks such as DVD playback and hands-free cell phone calls. Also added in the same year, an electrochromic glass roof was available allowing occupants to control the amount of natural light entering the cabin. In 2012, the Ferrari FF replaced the 612 Scaglietti as the sport cars brand 2+2 vehicle.
