Chrysler Coronavirus Financial Relief and New Car Incentives

Jack R. Nerad | April 2, 2020

The Pacifica minivan is the Chrysler brand's dominant vehicle, and as March began Chrysler launched a special promotion around it with a benevolent, family-oriented theme. For each Pacifica sold through the end of the school year, Chrysler would donate funds to provide up to 500 meals to kids in need.

Chrysler Coronavirus Financial Relief and New Car Incentives

For the promotion, Chrysler is working in tandem with No Kid Hungry, a campaign of Share Our Strength. Chrysler's goal is to provide up to 10 million meals to children suffering hunger and poverty, which translates to 20,000 minivan sales. Now, the coronavirus pandemic has made the No Kid Hungry effort more important than ever. In association with its charitable component, the campaign offers strong incentives on the purchase of a new Chrysler Pacifica.

Chrysler is also participating in Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' "Drive Forward" initiatives unveiled on April 1, 2020. They include new support for recent Chrysler customers who might need leeway with making payments, special financing offers for new customers, and deferred initial payments for new-car buyers, all giving Chrysler customers a new way to buy a car…or minivan.

Chrysler Capital and Ally Financial are the typical Chrysler dealer's key finance partners, funding the lion's share of consumer leases and new-car loans. Now, with record unemployment numbers and other financial hardships rippling through the country, both Chrysler Capital and Ally Financial are offering coronavirus car payment plans to consumers affected by the pandemic's far-reaching effects.

Chrysler Capital is offering its customers potential help on a case-by-case basis. To learn their options, the company's customers are urged to talk to a representative by phone at 855-563-5635. Currently, call volume is leading to lengthy wait times, but getting personal questions answered is the best way to come to a successful resolution of individual issues.

Depending upon each person's circumstances, Ally Financial auto loan customers will be allowed to defer payment for up to 120 days. No late fees will be charged, but finance charges will accrue over that time period. Ally customers are advised to contact Ally Auto customer care at 1-888-925-2559 to initiate the process and learn their options.

For Chrysler customers who didn't lease or finance their vehicle through Chrysler Capital or Ally Financial, the best advice is to contact their lender or leasing company directly and discuss their circumstances. Many lenders are willing to assist with various payment options that include payment deferral.

For minivan shoppers, the Chrysler Pacifica Family Pricing campaign offers some compelling features. First, it is a one-price promotion, which means customers don't have to resort to negotiation to get the best discount. It also includes zero-percent financing for 60 months on every 2020 model year Pacifica from the Touring trim to the Hybrid Limited. Depending upon the trim level, the combination of the discount from suggested list price and the value of the savings derived from zero-percent financing could be as much as $8,500. For a limited time, no payments for 90 days is also available on non-hybrid Pacifica models.

FCA's "Drive Forward" initiative offers Chrysler customers 'round-the-clock customer support, zero-percent financing for 84 months and no payments for 90 days on some 2019 and 2020 models. To find the Chrysler models that qualify for 84-month zero-percent financing and 90-day deferred payments go to Chrysler.com or contact your local dealer.

For those who are fearful or just unable to visit a Chrysler dealership, the just-created Online Retail Experience allows its customers to complete the entire vehicle purchase process online. Vehicle trade-in, credit application, and price and payment negotiation are all available without ever entering a showroom. Consumers can also arrange with participating dealers to have their vehicles delivered to their homes.

Chrysler Factory Closures - Find the best deals!

FCA has closed all of its U.S. and Canadian manufacturing plants, including the plants that build Chrysler cars and minivans. Approximately 68,000 manufacturing employees are idled by the production suspensions. Chrysler headquarters, manufacturing plants, and construction projects are currently expected to remain closed until at least April 14.

At the same time, many Chrysler dealers are open for both sales and service. Because parts are critical to keeping first-responder and commercial vehicles running, Mopar Parts distribution centers also remain open, staffed with paid volunteers for their employee rolls. Cleaning and social-distancing protocols have already been implemented across all Chrysler facilities to safeguard employees. The automaker will continue to evaluate conditions and could order additional production suspensions if necessary.

Chrysler Economic Outlook & Sales Forecast - Find the best deals!

Self-quarantining plus state and local restrictions on personal interaction led to a sharp drop in auto sales in March. In contrast to a pre-virus forecast of 16.9 million sales in 2020, the expected March sales total translates to a seasonally adjusted annual sales rate of 11.2 million.

With continuing and perhaps added lockdowns as the virus spreads, the April sales decline could be even worse despite efforts by brands like Chrysler to spur online vehicle purchases. FCA spokespeople we contacted were not willing to comment on the outlook for Chrysler sales or on the overall outlook for 2020 calendar-year sales.

According to J.D. Power, auto sales results going forward will be affected by the course of the pandemic itself, vehicle production lost to plant closures, and the legal restrictions on consumer and business activity designed to fight the pandemic. As this is being written J.D. Power's most recent 2020 outlook for total vehicle sales is 12.1 to 14.8 million units.
