Changes to the 2022 Chevrolet Models

Jeff Youngs | Dec 21, 2021

Chevrolet offers as diverse a lineup as any automaker that sells cars in the United States. Indeed, the "bowtie brand" offers everything from a basic economy car (Spark) to a world-class supercar (Corvette) to an extremely capable heavy-duty pickup (Silverado HD). A brand steeped in heritage, Chevy is acknowledging the winds of change, as it now offers two versions of its all-electric crossover, the Bolt EV and Bolt EUV, the latter being all-new for 2022. Lest you forget, Chevy is still a big truck brand, so it should come as no surprise that the Silverado 1500, Suburban, and Tahoe get most of the automaker's attention this year.

2022 Chevrolet Blazer Changes - Find the best Chevrolet deals!

First introduced for the 2019 model year, the Chevrolet Blazer is a 5-passenger midsize crossover SUV with sporty styling inspired by the Camaro. For 2022, Chevy drops the base L trim, and a turbocharged 2.0-liter unit replaces the 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine. A new trailering package is also now standard on Blazers equipped with all-wheel drive and available on front-wheel-drive models.

In the styling department, two-tone paint is available on the LT and RS trim levels, and the Premier has a refreshed look, with new wheels and dark front and rear lower fascias, rockers, and wheel moldings. There's also a new Enhanced Convenience package of options for the Premier trim. Finally, two new colors join the exterior paint palette: Nitro Yellow Metallic and Blue Glow Metallic.

2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV Changes - Find the best Chevrolet deals!

Chevrolet expands its electric vehicle (EV) portfolio with the launch of the all-new 2022 Bolt EUV, featuring a roomier 5-passenger interior than the Bolt EV hatchback. A 65-kWh lithium-ion battery pack working with a 200-horsepower electric motor powers the new Bolt EUV and provides an EPA-estimated 247 miles of range. In addition to its all-electric powertrain, the Bolt EUV is notable because it is the first Chevrolet model available with the automaker's Super Cruise hands-free driver-assistance technology.

The Bolt EUV comes equipped with an 11.5-kW Level 2 onboard charging module and a dual-level charge cord with 120- and 240-volt capability. Chevy says the Bolt EUV can provide up to 95 miles of range with just 30 minutes of charging using the standard DC fast charger. Regenerative braking and one-pedal driving are also part of the Bolt EUV package.

Inside, the new Bolt EUV features a contemporary design with a new 10.2-inch infotainment touchscreen and an 8-inch reconfigurable color gauge cluster. Available in LT and Premier trims, the Bolt EUV has standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a heated steering wheel is available. Adaptive cruise control is standard on Premier, as is Chevy Safety Assist, a suite of advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS) that includes automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, lane-keeping assistance with lane-departure warning, following distance indicator, forward-collision alert, and adaptive high-beam headlights.

2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV Changes - Find the best Chevrolet deals!

Initially launched for the 2017 model year, the Chevy Bolt EV is refreshed for 2022, getting the same all-electric powertrain as the all-new Bolt EUV. The estimated driving range for the 2022 Bolt EV increases to 259 miles, and with standard DC fast charging can provide up to 100 miles of range in 30 minutes of charging—both owing to the vehicle's slightly smaller dimensions as compared to the Bolt EUV.

Although the two models look very similar, the 2022 Bolt EV has a refreshed exterior design with a new hood, front and rear fascias, LED headlamps, taillights, and wheel designs. On the inside, the Bolt EV has a new 10.2-inch infotainment touchscreen, new instrument panel, vehicle controls, and seats, as well as sporty accents such as black bowtie emblems and an available flat-bottom steering wheel.

Chevy revises the Bolt EV's trim lineup for 2022 (1LT with cloth seats and 2LT with leather seats), and there's a handful of new exterior paint colors: Ice Blue Metallic, Gray Ghost Metallic, Silver Flare Metallic, Cherry Red Tintcoat, and Bright Blue Metallic (the last two at extra cost).

2022 Chevrolet Camaro Changes - Find the best Chevrolet deals!

The Chevrolet Camaro received a host of aesthetic, performance, and technology updates for 2021 in an effort to keep up with its primary rivals, the Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger. For 2022, the Camaro returns with just a handful of changes. On the performance front, the 1LE Track Performance package has reduced availability, and copper-free Brembo brakes are available on top trims. In the looks department, an exterior design package—available on LT and SS trims—includes 20-inch alloy wheels, a satin black hood stripe, and various body additions. Vivid Orange Metallic and Rapid Blue are new paint colors.

2022 Chevrolet Colorado Changes - Find the best Chevrolet deals!

Chevy's midsize pickup, the Colorado, is a carryover model for 2022. The only notable change is the availability of the Trail Boss package on LT and Z71 trims. The package includes a 1-inch suspension-leveling kit, underbody skid plates, 17-inch ZR2 accessory wheels in black, Colorado and Chevrolet bowtie emblems in black, red tow hooks, and the elimination of the front air dam.

2022 Chevrolet Corvette Changes - Find the best Chevrolet deals!

Now two years removed from the car's groundbreaking pivot to a mid-engine design for the 2020 model year, the C8 Chevy Corvette marches into 2022 with no significant changes. The sole addition to the 2022 Corvette's lineup is the availability of an IMSA GTLM Championship C8.R Edition, commemorating the racecar's 2020 season win in the popular racing series. Costing $6,595 and available on the 3LT trim with the Z51 Performance package, the special-edition appearance package mimics the racecar's look, complete with Accelerate Yellow or Hypersonic Gray paint with yellow brake calipers, distinctive wheels, tall wing spoiler, and "C8.R Edition" badging.

2022 Chevrolet Equinox Changes - Find the best Chevrolet deals!

The popular Chevrolet Equinox compact crossover SUV gets a mild refresh for the 2022 model year. Exterior updates include new front and rear fascias, a new grille, and new LED headlights and daytime running lights. Heated, power-adjustable outside mirrors with integrated turn signal indicators are now standard, and the LS and LT trims get updated interior trim bits.

There's also a sporty new RS trim with black exterior and interior accents and 19-inch Dark Android wheels. Elsewhere, the Premier trim gets a black grille with chrome inserts, optional 19-inch wheels, logo-projection liftgate, and specific interior trim. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now available, as are front and rear park assist and automatic parking assist.

Last but not least, four new exterior paint colors debut: Blue Glow Metallic, Seaglass Blue Metallic, Iron Gray Metallic, and extra-cost Cherry Red Tintcoat.

2022 Chevrolet Malibu Changes - Find the best Chevrolet deals!

Chevy's midsize sedan, the Malibu, soldiers on for another year. Like all other Chevrolet passenger cars, the 2022 Malibu sees minor updates as its star is likely fading. The base L trim is discontinued, the LT is now available with 16-inch alloy wheels, and an electronic parking brake is now standard. There are also two new paint colors: Mineral Gray Metallic and Dark Ash Metallic.

2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Changes - Find the best Chevrolet deals!

The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 faces some stiff competition in the full-size truck market in the form of the Ford F-150 and the Ram 1500, among others. As such, Chevy must keep the Silverado updated. The automaker does just that for the 2022 model year.

Although it has been available on the smaller Colorado pickup for years, the off-road-oriented ZR2 trim debuts on the Silverado in 2022, enhancing off-road ability well beyond that offered by the existing Trail Boss. Standard elements of the Silverado ZR2 package include a 420-hp 6.2-liter V8 engine, a 10-speed automatic transmission, off-road-tuned suspension, front and rear e-lockers and Multimatic DSSV dampers, Terrain mode, 33-inch off-road MT tires, and a unique skid plate package.

Elsewhere, all 2022 Silverado 1500 trucks get a revised front fascia and grille with new daytime running lights. Inside, LT trim and above receives a redesigned, upgraded interior with a new 12.3-inch configurable digital instrument cluster, a standard 13.4-inch touchscreen with Google built-in, and a more functional center console. GM's Super Cruise hands-free driver-assistance technology is also available on the top High Country trim.

More power is on tap for 2022 as well. The base 2.7-liter turbo engine gets a 20-percent torque boost, while the 3.0-liter turbodiesel's towing capacity is increased by 4,000 pounds (to a maximum of 13,300 pounds) thanks to chassis changes that open it to the availability of the max. tow package.

Additionally, three new exterior colors debut: Dark Ash, Sand Dune, and Glacier Blue Metallic.

2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500 Heavy Duty Changes - Find the best Chevrolet deals!

Chevy's workhorse Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD pickups roll over virtually unchanged for the 2022 model year, continuing to offer both gas and turbodiesel 6.6-liter engines. The trick, 6-position Multi-Flex tailgate is now available on all trims, a power seat is now available on Custom trim, and Greenstone Metallic joins the exterior paint color palette.

2022 Chevrolet Spark Changes - Find the best Chevrolet deals!

The diminutive, economical Chevrolet Spark returns for 2022 with no significant changes. Chevy's subcompact 4-door hatchback, available in LS, 1LT, Activ, and 2LT trims, gets three new exterior colors for 2022: Crimson Metallic, Blue Glow Metallic, and Nitro Yellow Metallic.

2022 Chevrolet Suburban Changes - Find the best Chevrolet deals!

One year after a complete redesign, Chevy treats its biggest SUV to several technology-related enhancements. Front and center on LT trim and above is a larger, 12.3-inch configurable digital instrument cluster. Google built-in is now standard, offering access to Google Assistant, Google Maps, and Google Play on the infotainment screen.

On the safety technology front, the number of available camera views increases to 13, front and rear park assist and lane-keeping assistance with lane-departure warning are now standard on all trims, and reverse automatic braking is available on Premier and High Country trims. Also, Buckle to Drive is now standard. This safety system restricts drivers from shifting out of Park if they haven't buckled their seat belts.

The 2022 Suburban also gets a couple of powertrain-related updates. The 6.2-liter V8 engine is now available on RST, Z71, and Premier trims, while an electronic limited-slip differential is available on the Z71.

Finally, there are three new exterior paint colors: Auburn Metallic, Evergreen Gray Metallic, and Dark Ash Metallic.

2022 Chevrolet Tahoe Changes - Find the best Chevrolet deals!

Essentially a shortened version of the Suburban, the Tahoe benefits from the same changes Chevy bestowed upon its big brother for the 2022 model year. While the Tahoe does hold a slight, 100-pound maximum towing capability advantage compared to the Suburban, its 122.9 cubic feet of maximum cargo space (with second and third rows of seats folded) pales in comparison to the Suburban's 144.7 cubic feet.

2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer Changes - Find the best Chevrolet deals!

Changes to the Trailblazer compact crossover SUV for 2022 are minimal. On the outside, dealer-installed roof rack cross rails are now available, while on the inside, a heated steering wheel is now standard on Activ and RS trim levels and available on the LT. Buyers can now get a trailering package (also dealer-installed), and there are four new metallic paint colors: Crimson, Blue Glow, Vivid Orange, and Mahogany Red.

2022 Chevrolet Traverse Changes - Find the best Chevrolet deals!

In sharp contrast to 2021, when it received only a single minor update, the Traverse 3-row midsize crossover SUV gets a host of significant changes for 2022. First, the exterior gets a freshened appearance with a new front fascia and grille, new lighting front and rear, a new roof rail design, and four new wheel designs. The available Redline Edition has a new look, and three new colors debut: Northsky Blue Metallic (LS and LT only), Silver Sage Metallic (LT only), and extra-cost Cherry Red Tintcoat.

While those changes are notable, the updates to the Traverse's cabin and technology offerings—particularly on the upper trims—are even more substantial. Premier and High Country trims get a new 8-inch color driver information center, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also available. Additionally, the availability of adaptive cruise control expands; it is now standard on RS, Premier, and High Country trims and available on the leather-equipped LT.

Safety tech is enhanced as well. The Chevy Safety Assist suite of ADAS is now standard on all trims. Also, a Safety Alert Seat, which automatically pulses the left, right, or both sides of the driver seat to identify the direction of a potential crash, is now standard on Premier and High Country trims. Meanwhile, rear pedestrian alert is standard on RS, Premier, and High Country, and available on the LT.

2022 Chevrolet Trax Changes - Find the best Chevrolet deals!

Chevy's smallest crossover SUV offering, the Trax, gets a slight power boost for the 2022 model year. The standard turbocharged, direct-injected, 1.4-liter 4-cylinder engine now produces 155 hp and 177 pound-feet of torque, increases of 12 percent and nearly 20 percent, respectively.
