Changes to 2021 Buick Models are Modest, But an All-New Envision SUV Debuts

Jeff Youngs | Nov 30, 2020

For the first time in its history, Buick will not offer a traditional passenger car model in the U.S., as the brand has now fully transitioned to an all-SUV lineup for the 2021 model year. While most of the 2021 Buick lineup sees only minor changes, the mid-range 2021 Envision is all-new, featuring a fresh exterior design and an enhanced list of standard and available safety and driver-assistance technologies.

Buick’s largest SUV model, the 3-row, 7-passenger Enclave, is essentially identical to last year’s version, though Premium and Avenir trim levels now have some additional standard advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS) such as automatic emergency braking and lane-keeping assist. Those same two trims also get power-adjustable lumbar support for the front seats and a seat massage feature.

Buick’s smallest (but most popular) SUV offering, the Encore, sees only modest changes for the 2021 model year. Now available on the higher Preferred trim, the Safety Package II includes rain-sensing wipers, front and rear parking sensors, forward-collision alert, and lane-departure warning. Also, two new colors join the exterior paint palette: Dark Moon Blue Metallic and Cinnabar Metallic.

The Encore GX, introduced for the 2020 model year, is the newest addition to Buick’s burgeoning SUV lineup. Slightly larger than – and bearing a strong resemblance to – the subcompact Encore SUV, the Encore GX sees few changes for 2021. SiriusXM satellite radio, wireless Apple CarPlay, and wireless Android Auto are standard on all trim levels, and Preferred models get standard adaptive cruise control.

Buick’s compact SUV offering is all-new for 2021, featuring a lower, wider body and a comprehensive list of standard and available safety and driver-assistance technology features. The new Envision is available in premium Avenir trim for the first time, and will also offer a 10-inch diagonal touchscreen infotainment system (a Buick first) that includes Amazon Alexa, Spotify, Pandora, and Fox Sports apps, in addition to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
