Acura Coronavirus Financial Relief and New Car Incentives

Rebecca A. Lindland | May 06, 2020

The COVID-19 pandemic has devastated the automotive industry, prompting automakers to offer assistance to existing and prospective customers though special coronavirus payment plans and programs.

Acura Coronavirus Financial Relief and New Car Incentives

Acura is responding to the crisis with a variety of programs for current owners and lessees and is enticing new customers with unusually good deals. Here’s a recap of what Acura and its credit company, Acura Financial Services (AFS), are offering and what other services are impacted.

Acura Customer Relief Programs - Find the best deals!

Like most other automakers, Acura is providing financial assistance to existing customers in need of help during these trying times.

Acura owners who bought or leased a vehicle through AFS and are facing difficult financial circumstances can manage their account proactively using the institution’s customer website. There, you can find details about late payment fee waivers, payment extensions, and payment deferrals, but you must contact AFS to confirm your eligibility.

For those account holders who need extra assistance due to the COVID-19 situation, specially trained AFS representatives are available. Find your regional service center to receive individualized attention. Acura Client Relations can be reached at 1-800-382-2238 or at their website, but wait times may be longer than normal.

If you’re shopping for an Acura, the brand is offering a 90-day deferred payment plan to qualified customers when financing through AFS. Keep in mind interest continues to accrue during the 90 days and this offer may not be available in some areas.

Acura is also providing special loan rates on certified pre-owned examples of the TLX and RDX. For current AFS customers shopping for a new vehicle, there’s a $500 loyalty purchase assistance cash payment towards the purchase or lease of a new Acura model, with certain exclusions. These programs expire June 1, 2020.

Additionally, Acura has announced a special $750 discount for first responders and healthcare professionals on new vehicles financed or leased through AFS. See AFS for more details and eligibility. This offer expires on July 6, 2020.

Depending on state and local regulations, Acura dealerships may be open for sales, service, and repair. However, hours might be different than normal, so it is a good idea to call first to make or confirm appointments. Customers who wish to buy an Acura online can do so using the company’s new Acura Precision Purchase website as long as their dealership is participating in the program.

Acura Factory Closures - Find the best deals!

All Acura products except for the RLX are produced in the U.S. at huge assembly plants in Marysville, Ohio and East Liberty, Ohio.

Acura, and its parent company Honda, were the first brands to suspend production at North American plants, halting production on March 18. Production is scheduled to resume on May 11, but that could change.

Acura Economic Outlook & Sales Forecast - Find the best deals!

Acura sales were down 51.2% year-over-year in March, and 56.8% in April. However, the company says that during the last two weeks of April, sales increased as state and local restrictions on retailing were lifted. J.D. Power has revised its annual auto sales forecast from a pre-virus estimate of 16.8 million units to between 12.5 and 14.5 million units for 2020.

“There will be challenging days ahead as this very serious public health crisis continues, but with consumer traffic beginning to increase online and at Honda and Acura dealerships, we are approaching the coming weeks with guarded optimism,” said Steven Center, vice president of Automobile Sales at American Honda Motor Co., Inc., in a statement related to April sales. “We value the actions of our associates and dealers as we work to align our business with changing market conditions, and we are now turning our attention to creating momentum for a broader recovery.”
