Top-rated 2020 Vans in Quality According to Consumers

Liz Kim | Jun 24, 2020

When it comes to transporting people in comfort, there is simply no better choice than a van. If you’re interested in getting one, there are many from which to choose. The most popular models for typical consumers are minivans, though, and for this list of top-rated 2020 vans in quality according to consumers, minivans are the focus.

To determine the highest-rated model for quality based on what consumers think, J.D. Power annually surveys thousands of verified new vehicle owners about the positive and negative aspects of their car, truck, SUV, or van during the first 90 days of ownership. After gathering and analyzing the data, the results are released in a series of studies, including the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study (IQS).

For the IQS, each make and model is given a “problems per 100 vehicles” score (PP100). This list ranks minivans by quality in descending order according to PP100 scores, placing the highest rated model at the very last.

4.  2020 Toyota Sienna - Find the best Toyota Sienna deals!

The Toyota Sienna is an old design. The current version debuted for 2011 and a fully redesigned Sienna is coming for 2021. Still, the 2020 Sienna can serve families well, thanks to features like a rear-seat entertainment system and Driver Easy Speak, which broadcasts the driver’s voice all the way to the back seats through the stereo speakers.

Five trim levels are available: L, LE, SE, XLE and Limited. Toyota’s trusty 296-horsepower 3.5-liter V-6 powers the Sienna, an 8-speed automatic transmission delivers the power to the front wheels, and until recently the Sienna was the only minivan to offer an optional all-wheel drive system. Fuel economy ranges between 18 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.

Crash-test scores aren’t what they should be for a family-oriented vehicle, but Toyota’s suite of advanced driving assistance systems comes standard on every Sienna.

The PP100 score for the 2020 Toyota Sienna is 191.

3.  2020 Chrysler Pacifica - Find the best Chrysler Pacifica deals!

Back in the 1980s, Chrysler invented the modern minivan. Today, it continues to innovate, offering the Pacifica with several exclusive features including a plug-in hybrid electric version offering more than 30 miles of electric driving before switching to gas-electric operation and getting 30 mpg in combined driving. Most Pacifica buyers, however, stick with the standard 287-hp 3.6-liter V-6.

For 2020, Chrysler makes several significant changes to the Pacifica. First, a lower-priced version called the Voyager is on sale. Second, an all-wheel-drive option arrives shortly before a full refresh for the 2021 model year. Third, an 8-passenger seating option is available.

From fun, family-oriented features like the FamCAM, to practical design like Stow ‘n Go seats that collapse into the floor, a Chrysler Pacifica covers all of the bases. It’s safe, too, receiving a Top Safety Pick designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

The PP100 score for the 2020 Chrysler Pacifica is 189.

2.  2020 Honda Odyssey - Find the best Honda Odyssey deals!

If Chrysler invented the modern minivan, Honda set the benchmark with the second-generation Odyssey more than two decades ago.

Today, the 2020 Honda Odyssey is available in LX, EX, EX-L, Touring and Elite trim levels. Most offer seating for eight people, and the Odyssey is available with CabinTalk (driver voice broadcast system), CabinWatch (in vehicle camera system), and more.

All Odysseys use a 280-hp 3.5-liter V6 returning 19 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. This minivan also earns a Top Safety Pick rating from the IIHS. However, keep in mind that Honda does not offer advanced driving assistance systems with the base LX trim level.

The PP100 score for the 2020 Honda Odyssey is 187.

1. Kia Sedona – Highest Van in Quality According to Consumers! - Find the best Kia Sedona deals!

Styled inside and out to look more like an SUV than a van, the 2020 Kia Sedona is available in L, LX, EX, and SX trim levels. Each has a 276-hp 3.3-liter V-6 engine, paired with a new-for-2020 8-speed automatic transmission and good for 18 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway.

Though it’s not as innovative as some competitors, the Sedona offers hands-free operation for the sliding doors and tailgate, a refrigerated glove box, a dual-screen rear entertainment system and the expected infotainment and advanced driving assistance systems. Crash protection is good, if not to the same standards set by the Chrysler and Honda. A full redesign is expected for 2022.

The PP100 score for the 2020 Kia Sedona is 165, and it receives an Initial Quality award in the vans segment.
