Top-Rated 2013 Vans:Initial Quality

Jeff Youngs | Jun 22, 2013
The J.D. Power Initial Quality Study (IQS)SM has served as an industry benchmark for new-vehicle quality for more than 25 years. Each year, the market research firm surveys tens of thousands of people who bought a new car, truck, SUV, or van, and who have owned the new vehicle for at least 90 days. J.D. Power uses the IQS to measure what goes right, and what goes wrong, during those first 3 months of ownership. The study is designed to determine which vehicle systems owners find difficult to use and to understand, as well as which vehicle systems suffer breakdowns and malfunctions. Listed below, in alphabetical order, are the top-rated vans in the 2013 IQS.

2013 Chrysler Town & Country

Earning an award in the Minivan category, the 2013 Town & Country leads the segment in the latest IQS. Able to seat seven people, the Town & Country is offered in Touring, Touring-L, and Limited trim levels, each equipped with a 283-horsepower, 3.6-liter V-6 engine. Changes for 2013 include leather seats and a new Trailer Sway Damping system as standard equipment, and an upgraded rear-seat entertainment system option.

2013 Honda Odyssey

With seating for up to eight people, the 2013 Odyssey is among the top-rated vans in the 2013 IQS. Five versions are on sale--LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, and Touring Elite--the latter two serving as the more luxurious and technologically equipped entries. The Odyssey's 248-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 engine is equipped with a fuel-saving Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) system, and for 2013, all Odysseys have standard Bluetooth with music streaming, a USB port, reversing camera, and a color in-dash display screen.

2013 Mazda 5

The Mazda 5 is a true minivan, a compact model comfortable for four people but able to carry six passengers if necessary. Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring trim levels are offered, each equipped with a 157-horsepower, 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine. Sport models have a standard manual gearbox, but most Mazda 5 vehicles are equipped with an automatic transmission that boasts improved fuel economy for 2013. Additional updates for 2013 include a standard USB port, side-signaling mirrors, rear park-assist sensors for upper trim levels, and new paint colors.
