The 2014 Infiniti Q50 is a replacement for the Infiniti G37, a 5-passenger luxury sport sedan offered with rear- or all-wheel drive and a choice between a 3.7-liter V-6 engine and a gas-electric hybrid powertrain.

Exterior Features

The new 2014 Infiniti Q50's exterior styling sets the tone for future Infiniti models. "Moving forward, we want all Infiniti vehicles to reflect an energetic force rooted in nature, such as the shape of a dynamic wave," said Shiro Nakamura, Infiniti Senior Vice President and Chief Creative Officer. "The Q50's enhanced sense of three-dimensionality gives it a look of strength and agility--a look that is highly personal, seductive and slightly mysterious."

In addition to a double-arch grille, dynamic-arch roofline, and a crescent-cut C-pillar design, the new Infiniti Q50 displays a defining character line that emerges from the grille, flows to the sides of the vehicle "like a wave," and wraps into the model's rear end. The bodywork produces a 0.26 coefficient of drag and zero lift at the front and rear, according to Infiniti.

The 2014 Infiniti Q50 is equipped with standard LED headlights, LED side marker lights, and LED taillights. Heated exterior mirrors, dual chrome exhaust outlets, and 17-inch machined-finish wheels with 225/55 all-season run-flat tires are standard. Infiniti offers the new Q50 in eight exterior paint colors, and the Q50 Sport models have a unique sport-design front fascia.

Interior Features

The "wave" design theme continues inside the 2014 Infiniti Q50, which displays the automaker's signature "double wave" cabin design with a new asymmetrical flow added to the center console. Nakamura explains: "Our designers approached the integration of every element in the interior in terms of not just function but also of stimulation of the senses--color, touch, texture, finish and beauty--creating an environment that is both intuitive and indulgent."

Standard equipment includes dual-zone automatic climate control, leatherette upholstery, 8-way power front seats, Active Noise Control, and Intelligent Key technology that saves up to four custom-tailored settings for driving position, climate control, audio system, navigation, and telematics. Every 2014 Q50 is also equipped with Bluetooth hands-free calling and audio streaming, electroluminescent gauges, reversing camera, HD Radio, and satellite radio.

The Infiniti Q50's interior is offered in Wheat, Graphite, and Stone colors, paired with a choice between aluminum and genuine maple wood trim. New front-seat designs include a thin front seatback for greater rear knee room than the outgoing G37, and the Q50 also offers more rear leg and foot room than the G37. The Q50's trunk is generously sized with the standard V-6 engine, measuring 18 cubic feet (14.1 cubic feet for models with the hybrid powertrain).

Optional Features

A number of extra-cost options will be offered for the 2014 Infiniti Q50. They include leather seats, power sunroof, premium 14-speaker audio system, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, and an Advanced Climate Control System with a Plasmacluster air purifier system. Additionally, the Q50 is offered with a navigation system that includes real-time traffic and weather, front sport seats with thigh extensions, an AroundView Monitor with Moving Object Detection technology, and an adaptive front lighting system with High Beam Assist. Infiniti also offers 19-inch aluminum wheels with 245/40 run-flat all-season or run-flat performance tires.

Under the Hood

The 2014 Infiniti Q50 is equipped with a standard 3.7-liter V-6 engine generating an estimated 328 horsepower and 269 lb.-ft. of torque. An available Infiniti Direct Response Hybrid with Intelligent Dual Clutch Control powertrain is available for the new Q50, combining a 3.5-liter V-6 engine with a 50 kWh electric motor and a compact Lithium-ion battery. Combined, the gas-electric hybrid powertrain generates 354 horsepower.

"True to the Infiniti DNA, our hybrid powertrains put performance first, without compromising fuel efficiency. It takes full advantage of the electric motor's instant torque for exceptional acceleration and, in combination with the 3.5-liter V-6, provides a sporty driving feel under all driving conditions. We have targeted the best balance of performance and fuel economy and hit it dead center," said Infiniti President Johan de Nysschen.

Both powertrains employ a 7-speed automatic transmission with a manual shift mode, Downshift Rev Matching technology, and magnesium paddle shifters. The V-6 and the hybrid models are equipped with standard rear-wheel drive, with all-wheel drive offered as an option.

The Q50 has a 4-wheel independent suspension with single pivot double-wishbone design up front and a multi-link arrangement in back employing Dual Flow Path shocks with increased camber stiffness and improved ride quality. Four-wheel vented-disc anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist are also standard. Sport models have a sport-tuned suspension and sport brakes, including upgraded rotors, 4-piston front calipers, and 2-piston rear calipers.

Vehicle-speed-sensitive mechanical steering is standard for the Q50. As an option, electric Infiniti Direct Adaptive Steering offers four different settings and allows the driver to adjust both steering effort level and the steering ratio. The system also allows independent control of front tire angle and steering inputs, and Infiniti says Direct Adaptive Steering delivers driver steering input to the wheels faster than a mechanical steering system.

The new Infiniti Q50 is also equipped with a Drive Mode selector on the center console that allows the driver to choose among Snow, Eco, Standard, Sport, and Custom settings. These adjust throttle response, transmission shifts, suspension calibration, and steering preferences accordingly.

New safety features for the 2014 Infiniti Q50 include Active Lane Control, which is included with the model's Lane Departure Prevention system. Active Lane Control uses a camera-based straight-line stability system to automatically compensate for crosswinds, road crowns, and unintended lane drift.

Additional safety-related upgrades for the new Q50 include Intelligent Cruise Control with Full Speed Range, predictive forward-collision warning, Forward Emergency Braking, Distance Control Assist, Blind Spot Intervention, Back-up Collision Intervention, and Pre-Crash Seatbelts.

Every 2014 Infiniti Q50 is equipped with Infiniti InTouch connectivity technology, including two touch-screen displays with hand-gesture recognition, customizable content menus, smartphone integration, Bluetooth hands-free calling and audio streaming, and more. Infiniti Connection service is also offered for the Q50, and includes Automatic Collision Notification and Drive Zone Monitoring technology.
