Introduction

Efficiency and versatility are two key descriptors of the 2013 Nissan Rogue, a small crossover that has changed little from the preceding 2012 model. Updates have been made to options, and the SL package has been incorporated into a new SV with SL Package trim level.

Exterior Features

As the base model, the 2013 Nissan Rogue S is more budget-friendly than feature-laden, as reflected by exterior features that are limited to 16-inch steel wheels, a rear spoiler, black power-adjustable outside mirrors, and chrome trim. The Rogue SV builds upon that short list by adding 17-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, more body-color trim, and rear privacy glass. From there, the SV with SL Package trim level goes a few steps further with its 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic HID headlights, fog lights, power tilt/slide moonroof, and heated mirrors.

Interior Features

Nissan offers the 2013 Rogue S with several basic creature comforts, such as air conditioning, tilt steering wheel, keyless entry, height-adjustable driver's seat, cruise control, and a 60/40 split-folding rear seat that, when lowered, expands total cargo space to 57.9 cubic feet. Cloth upholstery is also standard, as is a 4-speaker sound system featuring an auxiliary audio input jack.

The mid-level Rogue SV includes a number of additional amenities, among which are a rearview camera, push-button start, power driver's seat with 6-way adjustment, upgraded cloth upholstery, and a fold-flat front passenger seat that's particularly helpful when transporting long items such as a ladder or surfboard. This version of the 2013 Rogue also sports a premium 6-speaker audio system with a 4.3-inch display, satellite radio service, steering-wheel-mounted controls, and a USB port.

As the top-of-the-line trim level, the Nissan Rogue SV with SL Package offers more than just a long name. This is where buyers need to look if they want a standard navigation system with a 5-inch touch screen and real-time traffic information, exterior camera system that provides a 360-degree view around the vehicle, Bluetooth connectivity, automatic climate control, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. Other upgrades not found on the lower trim levels include heated front seats, leather upholstery and trim, and an 8-speaker sound system with a subwoofer.

Optional Features

For 2013, the Nissan Rogue crossover is available with two significant options. One of those is the Premium Edition (2012's Premium package), offered on the Rogue SV and comprised of automatic headlights, fog lights, automatic climate control, power tilt/slide moonroof, premium audio, and the navigation system.

The second member of the option pair is the S Special Edition package, which bundles 16-inch alloy wheels, a rearview camera, upgraded sound system with a USB port and satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity, and rear privacy glass.

Under the Hood

All 2013 Nissan Rogue models are equipped with a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine that generates 170 horsepower and 175 lb.-ft. of torque, output that's directed to the front wheels courtesy of a continuously variable transmission (CVT). An AWD system is optional.

Fuel Economy

EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2013 Nissan Rogue are:

  • Rogue FWD: 23/28/25 mpg (city/highway/combined)
  • Rogue AWD: 22/27/24 mpg

Safety

The 2013 Nissan Rogue's standard safety features include 6 air bags, traction control, front active head restraints, 4-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, limited slip, brake assist, and electronic brake-force distribution.

In government crash tests, the 2013 Nissan Rogue received an overall rating of 4 (out of 5) stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Rogue received a "Good" rating--the Institute's highest--for moderate frontal-offset crash protection, but a "Marginal" rating for small frontal-offset crash protection.
