Exterior FeaturesLexus is adding what it calls a "spindle" grille design to all of its models, and the updated 2013 Lexus RX is the latest recipient of this styling treatment. Additional design changes include a redesigned front end, new LED running lights, updated taillights, and a power tailgate. The new Sport Appearance package includes a unique front bumper design, 19-inch wheels with a Superchrome finish, and smoked lighting treatments. New colors include Silver Lining Metallic, Claret Mica, Deep Sea Mica, and Fire Agate Pearl.Interior FeaturesThe 2013 Lexus RX has a new steering wheel, revised gauges, redesigned center console, and a standard USB/iPod connection. Buyers can choose between Ebony or Espresso wood cabin trim, and a new Saddle Tan leather option debuts for 2013. Cloth seats are standard.

Optional Features

Lexus offers a number of options for the updated 2013 RX. Extra-cost items include a Mark Levinson premium sound system, rear-seat entertainment system, navigation system, and standard or semi-aniline leather. Lexus Enform telematics with Safety Connect services can be added to the RX, as well as several safety features.

Under the Hood

The 2013 Lexus RX 350 is equipped with a 270-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 engine paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission with Intelligent Shift Control. Front-wheel drive is standard, with Active Torque Control all-wheel drive optional.

The Lexus RX 450h hybrid generates a combined 295 horsepower, and effectively provides all-wheel drive thanks to front and rear electric assist motors. An EV mode allows for pure electric propulsion for short distances, and a new Sport mode features revised steering and powertrain calibrations intended for improved handling and response.

Fuel Economy

Lexus provides EPA fuel-economy estimates only for the 2013 Lexus RX 450h:

  • RX 450h FWD: 32/28/30 mpg (city/highway/combined)
  • RX 450h AWD: 30/28/29 mpg


The 2013 Lexus RX is equipped with 10 air bags, anti-lock brakes with brake assist, traction and stability control, and Smart Stop technology designed to make it impossible to accelerate with a foot on the brake pedal. Options include Dynamic Radar Cruise Control with Pre-Collision System, reversing camera, parking-assist sensors, adaptive headlights, and rain-sensing wipers.
