The Audi Q7 is a large luxury SUV with seating for seven. It's known for a sweeping roofline that provides a coupe-like silhouette. The Q7 competes with the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class, among others, and has a curb weight of 5,500 pounds. It's offered in three trim levels--Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige--and with a choice of two supercharged conventional V-6 engines or a clean-diesel TDI engine. The diesel engine has gained a little more power for the 2013 model year, and a few options have been added; otherwise the Q7 is little changed from 2012.

Exterior Features

Nine exterior colors are available for 2013, including the new Atlantis Blue. The Premium (base) trim features 18-inch alloy wheels, contrast lower body paint, rear parking sensors, roof rails, and a power liftgate with programmable opening angle. The Premium Plus trim adds Xenon Plus headlights with LED daytime running lights, and a three-panel panoramic sunroof. The Prestige trim adds adaptive headlights, Audi Side Assist, cornering lights, and the Audi S line exterior appearance.

Interior Features

The 2013 Audi Q7 features dual-zone automatic climate control, heated 12-way power front seats, leather upholstery (in black, grey, brown, or beige), tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, reclining 40/20/40 split-folding second-row seat, auto-dimming rearview mirror, Bluetooth connectivity, multimedia interface (MMI), and an 11-speaker sound system that includes satellite radio. Third-row seating provides limited space for adults. The Premium Plus trim adds a 14-speaker Bose surround-sound system with Audi Pilot noise compensation, and the Audi MMI Navigation Plus package. The Prestige trim adds Audi Advanced Key Entry, ventilated front seats, and a Warm Weather package that adds a tint to the panoramic sunroof, 4-zone climate control, and sunshades for the rear and side windows. With rear seats folded, the Q7 provides 72 cubic feet of cargo space.

Optional Features

At the Prestige trim level, a headlight washing system is optional. Other options include a Technology package with adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring system, and Corner View camera; an S line interior package with a black headliner, aluminum decorative inlays, and an S line 3-spoke steering wheel and shift knob; the S line Plus package with black accents throughout the body, along with an upgrade to 21-inch titanium-finish alloy wheels and wide-low-profile performance tires. A towing package raises the vehicle's towing capacity from 5,500 pounds to 6,600 pounds; the Cold Weather package adds heated rear seats and steering wheel. Audi Adaptive Air Suspension, a Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound System, rear-seat entertainment, and running boards are also available.

Under the Hood

The 2013 Audi Q7 is powered by a 3.0-liter, supercharged V-6 engine rated at 280 horsepower in the 3.0T trim and by a 3.0-liter, supercharged V-6 engine in the S line trim that boosts power output to 333 horsepower. All Q7s are fitted with a standard 8-speed Tiptronic transmission and Quattro all-wheel drive. A TDI version of the Q7 is powered by a 3.0-liter, turbo-diesel V-6 engine rated at 240 horsepower and 428 lb.-ft. of torque.

Fuel Economy

EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2013 Audi Q7 are:

  • Q7 with either supercharged engine: 16/22/18 mpg (city/highway/combined)
  • Q7 with clean-diesel TDI engine: 17/25/20 mpg

Standard safety features on the 2013 Audi Q7 include anti-lock brakes, stability and traction control, a full complement of air bags, and rear park-assist sensors. A blind-spot monitoring system is standard on the highest trim level. Second-row side air bags are available on all trim levels.

In government crash tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Q7 received 4 (out of 5) stars for rollover protection. In tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Q7 received "Good" ratings (the Institute's highest) for frontal-offset, side-impact, and rear-impact protection.
