The 2018 MINI Cooper coupe tries to make up for its price tag by being a premium subcompact car. It does have an admittedly attractive cabin and some sophistication under the hood. With three engines available, drivers can select from a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder with 134 horsepower and 162 lb.-ft of torque, a 20-liter four cylinder with 189 horsepower and 207 lb.-ft, and a Cooper S engine with 228 horsepower and 236 lb.-ft. The hardtop MINI comes in three trim levels. With the 2018 design, all Coopers have not only front side and side-curtain airbags, but also front knee airbags. They also now all come with stability and traction control, anti-lock brakes, and a backup camera. As of 2018, the Cooper does not have the technology for accident avoidance. The two-door MINI Cooper received four out of five in front and side crash tests. Optional equipment includes keyless entry and ignition, an 8.8-inch display screen, a navigation system, automated parallel parking, and a Harmon Kardon sound system.
