The GMC Sierra and the Chevrolet Silverado become the first hybrid pickup trucks to enter production for the 2005 model year. The Sierra 1500 Hybrid pickup truck is propelled by a 5.3-liter V-8 engine but incorporates regenerative disc braking for stop/start technology and auxiliary power. For the 2005 model year, a luxury-oriented Denali version of the 2005 Envoy and Envoy XL brings the trademark chrome mesh grille and high-end interior features to the mid-sized sport utility vehicle. The 5.3-liter V-8 on the Envoy Denali also introduces Displacement on Demand technology. In other Denali news for 2005, the Sierra version of the luxury-appointed GMC is promoted to the crew cab body style.
