Volkswagen has officially revealed the U.S.-specification version of the freshened 2022 Tiguan, a vehicle we previewed for you nearly one year ago.

The improved 2022 VW Tiguan boasts updated technology, more comfort and convenience features, and, of course, revised exterior styling. The changes to the second-generation Tiguan are significant to Volkswagen because the compact crossover has become its biggest selling model, both here in the United States and around the world.

Volkswagen has upped the Tiguan’s technology game by making an 8-inch digital instrumentation cluster standard. For those who want an even bigger display, a 10-inch version is optionally available.

All but the least expensive of the Tiguan trims will feature a new MIB3 infotainment system, wireless charging, and wireless connections for apps, depending upon device compatibility. Volkswagen’s Digital CarNet connected services will also be a standard feature, and it offers Wi-Fi to buyers who enroll in a data plan.

VW also makes elements of its IQ Drive package of advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS) standard on all trims.

Base model Tiguans will have standard forward-collision warning, forward emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot warning, and rear cross-traffic warning. Other versions of the SUV will get expanded IQ Drive features, including lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, and some automated driver assistance features.

Among IQ Drive’s most interesting features is its automatic emergency stop assistance system, which guide the SUV to safety when the driver suffers a medical emergency. Optional driver assistance technologies include automatic high-beam headlights, road sign recognition, and automatic parking assist.

In addition to the tech upgrades, Volkswagen enhances the 2022 Tiguan’s interior comfort. Heated seats are standard equipment, and to get even toastier on those cold winter mornings, a heated steering wheel is optionally available. To solve the opposite problem, ventilated seats are available as well. Most trim levels have standard automatic climate control.

Both leatherette and genuine leather seats are available, as are power-adjustable driver and front passenger seats. Other optional features include 15-color ambient interior lighting, a Fender premium audio system, and a panoramic sunroof.

Freshened Styling - Find the best Volkswagen deals!

On the exterior, the 2022 Tiguan retains the model’s distinctive overall looks but features an altered front end. Standard LED headlights flank a revised grille containing VW’s new logo with optional nighttime illumination. Versions with R-Line specification feature sport-designed bumpers and side sills.

The rear of the SUV adds Tiguan lettering that spans the tailgate, similar to the top-of-the-line Arteon specialty sedan. New aluminum wheel designs will be available across the lineup, ranging in size from 17 inches to 20 inches. Eight exterior colors are also available on the 2022 Tiguan, including a new white and a new red metallic.

The More Things Change… - Find the best Volkswagen deals!

All 2022 VW Tiguans have the same 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine from before. It produces 184 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque and pairs with an 8-speed automatic transmission. VW’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive system is optional.

The 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan will be available at U.S. dealers this summer, with pricing expected to be similar to the current Tiguan.
