Subaru Donates to Feeding America in Response to Coronavirus
Subaru, the brand noted for its Love Promise and commitment to charity, has just announced a new effort that will provide up to 50 million meals nationwide to those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Subaru of America, Inc., with support from its two regional independent distributors, Subaru of New England and Subaru Distributors Corp., has made a donation worth several million dollars through Feeding America, the nation's largest domestic hunger-relief organization and its associated nationwide network of 200 food banks. The automaker's contribution will help ensure individuals and families who are in need across the country are fed and cared for during the course of the pandemic.
"In these trying times we all search for stability in our daily lives," said Thomas J. Doll, president and CEO, Subaru of America in a statement. "We hope that through this donation to Feeding America, we can provide the comfort and stability of a meal for people who struggle with hunger in America. We must all stay safe but remember to help others where we can."
Even before COVID-19 became an international health issue, some 37 million Americans, including 11 million children, faced hunger every day. Now with the economic uncertainty associated with shelter-in-place and lockdown orders, millions more facing unemployment will increasingly rely on the nation's food banks to put groceries on the table. Subaru's donation will help give food banks the resources they need to serve the most vulnerable members of their communities.
"We are incredibly grateful for the generous donation from Subaru, which will help every food bank in our network provide food to our neighbors in need," said Claire Babineaux-Fontenot, CEO of Feeding America.
Through the just-announced partnership, Subaru, its independent distributors, and the 633 Subaru dealers nationwide will build on their relationships with local Feeding America member food banks. Together, they will work to provide ongoing support to the hungry in the form of food drives, donations, and volunteer events. For more about Feeding America, visit www.feedingamerica.org.
