Redesigned 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA Prices Rise Due to New Size, Technology

Mercedes-Benz announced that the starting price for the all-new 2021 GLA, the automaker’s lowest-priced SUV, will start at $36,230 for the GLA 250. Adding 4Matic all-wheel drive costs an additional $2,000. This represents a significant bump in price from the current GLA, which starts at $34,250.

Redesigned, the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA is a subcompact SUV that is taller, wider, and longer than its predecessor, with increased interior space for people and their things. Cargo space measures 50.5 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down, an improvement over the 43.6 cubic feet supplied by the 2020 version.

A turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine makes 221 horsepower, an increase of 13 ponies over the 2020 GLA 250, while torque output remains at 258 lb.-ft. Matched to an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, the engine powers the front wheels unless you get 4Matic. Mercedes claims the GLA 250’s zero-to-60 mph acceleration time is 6.8 seconds, with Mercedes-estimated fuel economy ratings of 25 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway.

Inside, the new 2021 GLA features the company’s new Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system with natural voice recognition technology, as well as digital instrumentation. If you’re willing to spend extra you can get a head-up display and an augmented video navigation system ($1,295), which uses live imagery from a forward-facing camera with upcoming turn instructions superimposed on the video feed to help get you to your destination. An optional AMG Line appearance package ($2,240) includes 19-inch wheels, styling modifications, and sport-bolstered front seats.

Choose the Driver Assistance Package ($1,700) to equip the GLA with the latest in active safety technologies, including a semi-autonomous version of adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality and steering assistance to make low-speed travel in traffic conditions easier.

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA 250 will be available in dealerships in the summer of 2020. Those seeking increased performance will need to wait for the AMG GLA 35 and AMG GLA 45 versions, for which pricing has not been released.
