Ram Updates Truck Lineup with Performance Models

The Ram 1500 was one of the most buzzed-about models on the market when its latest generation debuted in 2019. The truck was luxurious and comfortable to a level that most people had never experienced, and it had substance to back up its style. However, Ram hasn’t rested on its success since then and has continued expanding the 1500 lineup with new model variants, powertrains, and trim levels.

The Ram 1500 truck lineup was already expansive, with a whopping six trims on offer. Several powertrain options are available, and buyers can configure the Ram 1500 as anything from a stripped-down work truck to a fire-breathing monster off-roader. Interestingly, the automaker also still sells the previous-generation Ram 1500 in limited configurations as the Ram 1500 Classic. The latest additions to the catalog are two G/T models for the 2022 model year: The Ram 1500 Laramie G/T and the Ram 1500 Rebel G/T.

The Ram 1500 G/T models get several performance upgrades previously exclusive to the Ram TRX pickup. Paddle shifters, a performance shifter, and metal sport pedals all make their way to the new G/T models, and the trucks will carry a trim-specific interior with sports seats and special appearance upgrades. Outside, changes include a performance hood and unique G/T decals.

Each Ram G/T model also receives several performance-related components and tech features. A cold-end exhaust and cold-air intake are standard, and the trucks will get a performance pages app built into their infotainment system. The software gives drivers access to g-force gauges, 0-60 mph timers, and engine performance data. Drivers can download the information to a USB drive to share. The performance app is common in vehicles such as the Ram TRX, Dodge Challenger Hellcat, and Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk.

Even with all of those performance-inspired improvements, Ram is installing its workhorse 5.7-liter V8 with an eTorque mild-hybrid system in the trucks. While it’s not the supercharged V8 found in the Ram TRX, its numbers are still respectable. It’s rated at 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque and can produce max. towing capacity of up to 11,320 pounds.

Ram is offering the G/T trucks in Crew Cab configuration and only with the brand’s 5.7-liter V8 with eTorque mild-hybrid assist. The trucks are slated to go on sale in the third quarter of 2021 and will have a starting price of $55,375 for the Ram 1500 Rebel G/T and $55,480 for the Ram 1500 Laramie G/T. Both will have a $1,695 destination charge tacked on.
