Land Rover Teases New Range Rover SUV

Chris Teague | Oct 20, 2021

Most companies are lucky to end up with one, maybe two, nameplates with legendary status in the automotive world. Land Rover isn't one of them because almost every model in its lineup has become an icon. The Range Rover has undoubtedly achieved that level of notoriety, and after 50 years of toting royals and shuttling celebrities around the world, it's getting an overhaul. Land Rover has shared an extremely blurry teaser image for the new SUV to build excitement for the model's launch.

2022 Land Rover Range Rover Teaser Side Profile

The new Range Rover bears a striking resemblance to the old Range Rover, but that's by design. Land Rover isn't ready to stray too far from the successful formula it first implemented with the SUV back in 2012 when the automaker refreshed the Range Rover with a sleek design that featured long lines and smooth bodywork. Though the teaser image doesn't reveal all the details, it's clear that the SUV carries evolutionary styling rather than a clean slate redraw.

In terms of powertrains, we're likely to see a mild-hybrid V6 engine at the entry level as in previous model years, and an option for at least one V8 is almost a given. Land Rover offers a plug-in hybrid version of the Range Rover, so there's a good chance an electrified powertrain will make its way under the hood of the new model as well.

Land Rover has spent considerable time and effort improving its Pivi Pro infotainment software in recent years with over-the-air update capabilities, more connectivity options, and various apps. Previous Range Rovers got a 10-inch touchscreen, which will likely be the starting point for the new model.

We won't know much about the new Range Rover pricing or specific configurations until closer to the reveal date, but the base-level price tag should be around the previous model's starting point of $92,000. If you're excited to see the new Range Rover, Land Rover is hosting an official reveal on its website, LandRoverUSA.com. The event will take place on Tuesday, October 26, at 3:40 PM Eastern.
