Changes to 2021 Honda Pilot Include Value-Packed Special Edition

Christian Wardlaw | Jun 17, 2020

One of the most popular midsize 3-row SUVs in America, the 2021 Honda Pilot receives several changes in what is expected to be its final year before a complete redesign. Leading the list of updates, a new 2021 Honda Pilot Special Edition debuts, slotting into the lineup between the EX-L and the Touring trim levels.

What makes the Pilot Special Edition so special? It adopts the blacked-out appearance that is so popular these days, adding a black grille, black roof rails, black front and rear simulated skid plates, and black 20-inch aluminum wheels. Wireless phone charging and a hands-free power rear liftgate are also a part of the Special Edition package, which comes in five different colors with a black or gray interior. Pilot Special Edition prices start at $38,960 with front-wheel drive and rise to $40,960 with all-wheel drive.

All 2021 Honda Pilot trim levels now include a 9-speed automatic transmission, replacing the previous 6-speed automatic in the Pilot LX, EX, and EX-L. It includes steering wheel paddle shifters for manual control over gear changes and adds an automatic engine stop/start system to the Pilot.

The only other changes to the 2021 Pilot include a standard dual-zone automatic climate control system in the base LX trim level, and a new Platinum White Pearl paint color for the top-of-the-line Black Edition.

Prices rise for 2021, with the base LX starting at $32,250, which is $700 more than the 2020 model. At the opposite end of the lineup, the Pilot Black Edition squeezes in beneath the $50,000 mark at $49,920. Destination charges also rise, from $1,050 to $1,120, which pays for shipping from the Lincoln, Alabama factory to your local dealership.
