2022 Honda Accord Hybrid Sport Now Available

One of the most popular versions of the Honda Accord is the Sport model. The Accord Sport combines an appealing level of equipment with an affordable price and attractive 19-inch wheels, but it has only been available with a turbocharged 1.5-liter gasoline 4-cylinder engine. Until now.

The new-for-2022 Honda Accord Hybrid Sport ought to interest Honda customers who are sick of paying high gas prices but love the look and window sticker of the regular Accord Sport. The new model costs $30,020 (not including the destination charge of $1,015), and except for the “Hybrid” emblems on the front fenders and trunk lid, it looks just like the standard gas-only Sport.

Of course, those snazzy 19-inch wheels do reduce fuel economy. The standard Accord Hybrid is EPA-rated to get 48 mpg in the city, 47 mpg on the highway, and 47 mpg in combined driving. The new 2022 Accord Hybrid Sport is rated 44 mpg in the city, 41 mpg on the highway, and 43 mpg in combined driving. Still, those figures are nothing to discount. In combined driving, the new Sport version of the Accord Hybrid supplies 11 more miles per gallon than the gas-only model.

More power is on tap, too. The gas-only Accord Sport employs a turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder good for 192 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 192 pound-feet of torque between 1,600 rpm and 5,000 rpm. The Accord Hybrid Sport produces a combined 212 hp at 6,200 rpm and 232 pound-feet from 0 rpm to 2,000 rpm.

Granted, the Accord Hybrid’s 2-motor hybrid powertrain doesn’t sound quite as satisfying as the standard Accord’s turbo 1.5. Still, you’ll likely be willing to trade its steady-state droning under acceleration for fewer visits to the gas station. Other than this new version of the Hybrid model, changes to the 2022 Honda Accord are nearly non-existent. Prices are up, though. Gas-only models start $500 higher than the 2021 Accord, while Hybrids increase only $100 over their 2021 counterparts. The new 2022 Accord Hybrid Sport is $500 less than the Hybrid EX it replaces. Destination charges to ship the car from Honda’s Marysville, Ohio factory to your local dealership remain the same as in 2021, at $1,015.
