2021 Toyota RAV4 Changes Include New Hybrid Version

Toyota is making a handful of changes to the 2021 RAV4 lineup. The compact crossover SUV is one of the most popular vehicles in America, and for the new model year the company’s electrified RAV4 offerings expand.

We’ve previously reported on the new 2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime, a plug-in hybrid that offers an estimated 42 miles of driving range from a fully charged battery pack before it switches over to gas-electric hybrid operation. And with 302 horsepower, the RAV4 Prime should reach 60 mph from a standstill in about 5.7 seconds, according to Toyota.

Now, Toyota confirms that it will expand the RAV4 Hybrid lineup again. A new XLE Premium trim level debuts, and it mirrors the features of the gas-only RAV4 XLE Premium. The new 2021 RAV4 XLE Premium wears a price tag of $32,500.

Highlights include 18-inch chrome aluminum wheels and LED headlights, running lights, and fog lights. Inside, you’ll find a power moonroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, and an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat. A power liftgate and SofTex-trimmed seats are standard, along with some interior material trim enhancement set it apart from the XLE Hybrid. SofTex is Toyota’s simulated leather upholstery.

The RAV4 Hybrid, which comes with standard all-wheel drive, boasts 219 horsepower combined with instant torque from the electric assist motor, and it is estimated to get about 40 mpg in combined driving. The gas-only RAV4 makes 203 horsepower, does not benefit from immediate electric motor torque, and gets 29 mpg in combined driving.

Toyota announced one other change for the 2021 RAV4. The RAV4 TRD Off-Road model gets a new stainless steel front skid plate, stamped with the TRD logo. This suggests buyers are actually taking this version of the RAV4 off-road.
