2021 Cadillac XT6 Changes Drop Price, Add Wireless Connectivity

Liz Kim | Jun 29, 2020

Cadillac is making it easier to own its 3-row midsize SUV, the 2021 XT6. If you’ve never heard of the Cadillac XT6, it is bigger than the compact XT4 and midsize 2-row XT5, but smaller than the Escalade. And if you don’t know what vehicles these alphanumeric nameplates are attached to and thought the only SUV Cadillac sold was the Escalade, then you’ve already learned something new.

2021 Cadillac XT6 Luxury Turbo 4-Cylinder

Introduced for the 2020 model year, the XT6 was priced from $52,695 and came only in Premium Luxury and Sport trim levels. This price and packaging made it more expensive than several competitors, including the Acura MDX, Infiniti QX60, and Lexus RX L

Now, the 2021 Cadillac XT6 price drops to $48,990, thanks to a new base Luxury trim level and a less powerful standard engine. It’s a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder making 237 horsepower, and it’s also used in the smaller and lighter XT4 and XT5 models. Matched to a 9-speed automatic transmission, the engine powers the XT6’s front wheels, with all-wheel drive available as an option.

In the compact XT4, this turbocharged 4-cylinder provides good acceleration and returns up to 26 mpg in combined driving, but that small SUV weighs 3,660 pounds. An XT6 weighs hundreds of pounds more, and it carries more people, so expect the added mass to blunt performance and fuel economy. You’ll probably still want the available 310-hp 3.6-liter V-6.

With XT6 Luxury trim, standard equipment includes smaller 18-inch aluminum wheels and simulated leather instead of the real thing. Fewer upgrades will be available for the Luxury trim, too, the theory being that if you want more stuff, get Premium Luxury or Sport trim. Standard equipment will, however, include triple-zone automatic climate control and several driver assistance and collision avoidance systems.

Other 2021 Cadillac XT6 changes include standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a new 20-inch wheel design for the XT6 Sport, and three new paint colors including Dark Moon Blue Metallic, Infrared Tintcoat, and Wilder.

Look for the 2021 Cadillac XT6 in showrooms this fall.
