While the Lexus RC received minor updates for the 2019 model year, the BMW M2 received a major refresher and transitioned itself to the M2 Competition, making it ready to perform both on and off the track. However, that doesn’t mean the Lexus RC isn’t a worthy competitor. Its exterior design got some welcome new lines and cuts, making it sportier than ever before, and some subtle styling tweaks to improve aerodynamics. Lexus also gave the RC retuned suspension and new tires to enhance its performance. Although the RC received necessary updates, it’s tough to compete with the M2 Competition’s overhaul, including a new twin-turbocharged engine coupled with a 6-speed manual transmission, 19-inch wheels, more interior branding, and a cabin redesign with features pulled from the M3 and M4’s Competition Package. The M2’s engine is, possibly, its most talked about feature for this year, as it edges out many competitors in power, including the RC, delivering 406 lb-ft of torque. Both vehicles are neck-in-neck when it comes to safety, though. They each include an array of necessary features, like front and side airbags, antilock brakes on all four wheels, crash mitigating brakes, a rearview camera, and available driver’s assistance technology.
