2008 Pontiac Solstice Convertible

What Changed for 2008:
Introduced for the 2007 model year, the Pontiac Solstice 2-door, 2-passenger roadster returns for 2008 as a carryover model but adds OnStar, a tire-pressure-monitoring system, a CD/MP3 stereo, and three months of free XM satellite radio programming. The Solstice was co-developed and shares its platform and much of its hardware with the Saturn Sky.
Model Lineup
For 2008, consumers can choose a Pontiac Solstice or Solstice GXP. Five option packages are available for Solstice, with two of them available for the more heavily-contented GXP. Standard equipment on both includes an AM/FM stereo with CD player and MP3 playback and 6 speakers; driver information center; 12-volt power outlet; bucket seats; tire-pressure-monitoring system; power remote trunk release; stainless steel exhaust; power steering; and a tire repair kit. GXP models add a performance suspension; dual high-polished stainless steel exhaust; 4-wheel anti-lock disc brakes (ABS); limited-slip rear differential; 18-inch polished aluminum wheels; fog lamps; power windows and door locks; and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
Options on the 2008 Pontiac Solstice include an upgraded audio system; OnStar; rear spoiler; stability control (base, standard on GXP); 5-speed automatic transmission; and 18-inch polished aluminum wheels (base).
Powertrain
The 2008 Pontiac Solstice is powered by a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine with variable valve timing (VVT) and sequential fuel injection that produces 173 hp at 5800 rpm and 167 lb.-ft. of torque at 4500 rpm. The GXP powerplant is a turbocharged, 2.0-liter, VVT, dual overhead cam, 4-cylinder aluminum engine that pumps out 260 hp at 5300 rpm and 260 lb.-ft. of torque at 2500-5250 rpm. Power gets transferred to the rear wheels by a standard 5-speed manual transmission for both models, while a 5-speed automatic transmission is optional. EPA fuel economy is estimated at 19 mpg city/24 mpg highway for the 2.4-liter engine with automatic transmission, and 19 mpg city/25 mpg highway for the manual. The 2.0-liter turbocharged engine gets an EPA-estimated 19 mpg city/26 mpg highway (automatic) and 19 mpg city/28 mpg highway (manual). Anti-lock brakes and stability control are standard on the GXP and optional on the base Solstice.
Safety
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Pontiac Solstice receives 4-star ratings (out of a possible 5 stars) for all occupants in frontal and front side-impact crash tests, and a 5-star NHTSA rollover test rating.
Standard safety features of the 2008 Pontiac Solstice include dual front air bags, 3-point safety belts, daytime running lamps, tire-pressure-monitoring system, theft-deterrent system, and a power remote trunk release.
Technology
Both Solstice models for 2008 come with a standard AM/FM stereo with CD player and 6-speaker system. An upgraded AM/FM stereo with 6-disc in-dash CD changer and MP3 playback and auxiliary input jack for an iPod/MP3 player is optional, as well as a Monsoon premium 7-speaker system with tweeters, rear speakers and subwoofer. XM satellite radio is free for 3 months. The Personal Audio Link (PAL) package available on both models includes full “read” functionality for iPod (sorts by category and shuffles songs/titles, navigates the audio library using the vehicle’s radio controls, and charges the iPod while the vehicle is running and the device is connected).
