What Changed for 2008:
Chevrolet’s compact front-engine, front-drive 2008 Aveo 4-door sedan and subcompact Aveo5 5-door hatchback, introduced in 2004, are carryover from 2007, with few changes. LS models get optional 15-inch aluminum wheels and chrome door handles in 2008, and both Aveo and Aveo5 have a new tire-pressure monitor. The Aveo/Aveo5, built for Chevy by Daewoo in Korea, provides basic transportation with a good list of standard features for an attractive price. Chevy touts the Special Value Aveo5 as the “lowest-priced car in America.”
Model Lineup
The 2008 Chevrolet Aveo is available in either 4-door sedan (Aveo) or 5-door hatchback (Aveo5). The Aveo sedan has two trim levels—LS and LT—while Aveo5 is offered in Special Value and LS trim. Both Aveo and Aveo5 feature new standard seat-mounted side-impact air bags and tire-pressure monitor. The LS Aveo sedan includes carpeted front/rear mats; AM/FM stereo; a choice of woodgrain or metallic interior accents; air conditioning with air filtration system; tilt steering column; driver armrest; and 14-inch steel wheels with full bolt-on covers. LT models add chrome door locks; stereo with CD/MP3 player and 6-speaker premium sound system; deluxe cloth seats; cruise control; power door locks; remote keyless entry; fog lamps; heated, power, foldaway body-color mirrors; and 15-inch aluminum wheels.
The Special Value Aveo5 is equipped with a tire-pressure monitor; AM/FM stereo; tilt steering column; cloth trim; and 14-inch steel wheels with full bolt-on covers. LS Aveo5 adds carpeted floor mats and air conditioning with air filtration system.
Options include a 6-speaker premium sound system; 4-speed automatic transmission; fog lamps; roof- (Aveo5) or trunk-mounted (Aveo sedan) spoiler; 4-wheel ABS; 15-inch aluminum wheels; cruise control; power door locks; sunroof; MP3 player; and perforated leatherette seating. Available dealer-installed Aveo accessories include body-side moldings, roof-mounted carriers, side window weather deflectors, spoilers, cargo organizer, and painted brake calipers.
Powertrain
The 2008 Chevrolet Aveo/Aveo5 is powered by a 1.6-liter, 16-valve, dual overhead cam (DOHC) 4-cylinder engine that produces 103 hp at 5800 rpm and 107 lb.-ft. of torque at 3600 rpm. A 5-speed manual transmission is standard, with a 4-speed automatic transmission available. Another available option is 4-wheel ABS. EPA fuel economy estimates for the 1.6-liter engine with manual transmission are 24 mpg city/34 mpg highway, and 23 mpg city/32 mpg highway for the automatic transmission.
Safety
Standard safety features on the 2008 Chevrolet Aveo/Aveo5 include dual front air bags with passenger-sensing system; seat-mounted side-impact air bags; front rotor and rear drum brakes; and 4-wheel ABS with the optional 4-speed automatic transmission.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the 2008 Chevrolet Aveo 4-door sedan receives a 5-star driver and 4-star front passenger rating in frontal crash protection, and a 4-star rating in front-seat and a 3-star rating in rear-seat side-impact tests. In NHTSA rollover testing, the Aveo receives a 4-star rating. The subcompact Aveo5 receives a 5-star frontal rating for driver and front passenger, a 4-star rating in front- and rear-seat side-impact tests, and a 4-star rating in rollover testing.
Technology
Standard in every 2008 Chevrolet Aveo is an AM/FM stereo with dual front and rear coaxial speakers, along with an auxiliary input jack. An upgraded AM/FM stereo with CD/MP3 player and premium 6-speaker sound system is available.
