October Highlights - 10 things to know about this month
1. Best October total sales since 2004: 1.28M total sales (+6.1% Y/Y) generated a SAAR of 16.4M (+1.1M Y/Y)
2. October fleet growth far outpaced retail growth: Y/Y fleet sales grew 17.5% vs retail sales growth of 3.9%
3. Transaction prices set an all‐time October record: $30,700 or +$345 Y/Y
4. High retail sales and record transaction prices created record October consumer expenditure: $32.3B (+5.1% Y/Y)
5. Incentive spending has grown $231 Y/Y to hit $2,990/unit or 8.6% of MSRP (+0.5ppts)
6. Large Pickup had its best retail mix in 37 months and Midsize Pickup had its best retail mix since Oct’12.
Conversely, Midsize Car had its weakest performance in 34 months
7. Industry’s top five non‐premium nameplates (Toyota, Ford, Chevrolet, Honda, and Nissan) all lost share vs Sep’14, giving up a collective 1.5ppts; GM alone lost 0.8ppts. Subaru retail share surpassed Hyundai
