J.D. Power and Associates Reports:Riverview Medical Center Recognized for Providing Outstanding Maternity and Outpatient Experiences WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif.: 24 June 2009 — Riverview Medical Center, located in Red Bank, N.J., has been recognized for service excellence for a fifth time under the J.D. Power and Associates Distinguished Hospital Program.SM This distinction acknowledges a strong commitment by Riverview Medical Center to provide “An Outstanding Maternity Experience” and “An Outstanding Outpatient Experience.” Previously, the hospital was recognized for its inpatient and emergency department services.
“In earning this recognition for a fifth time, Riverview Medical Center has truly demonstrated its commitment to service excellence,” said Kevin Lieb, senior director of provider programs at J.D. Power and Associates. “Patients place a high value on the service aspects of their hospital stay, so providing them with a consistently positive experience is crucial.”
The service excellence distinction was determined by surveying recently discharged patients from Riverview Medical Center about their perceptions of their hospital stay and comparing the results to the national benchmarks established by the annual J.D. Power and Associates National Hospital Service Performance Study.SM
The telephone-based research conducted among Riverview Medical Center patients focuses on the five key drivers of patient satisfaction with their overall experience. These drivers, which were identified in the national study, are speed and efficiency; dignity and respect; comfort; information and communication; and emotional support.
Riverview Medical Center exceeds the national benchmark study score for overall maternity and outpatient satisfaction. Among outpatients, the hospital receives high ratings for speed and efficiency, while maternity patients report high levels of satisfaction for the dignity and respect shown, particularly the courtesy shown by the nurses.
Nearly 80 percent of Riverview Medical Center maternity patients surveyed say they “definitely would” return to the facility if they needed to go the hospital again to have a baby, compared with an average of only 58 percent in the national study. Likewise, 80 percent of maternity patients say they “definitely would” recommend Riverview Medical Center to a friend or relative, compared with only 60 percent in the national study.

Nongovernmental, acute-care hospitals throughout the nation are eligible for the J.D. Power and Associates Distinguished Hospital recognition for inpatient, maternity, cardiovascular, emergency and outpatient services. Distinction is valid for one year, after which the hospital may reapply for this recognition.
