Frye Regional Medical Center Recognized for Providing an Outstanding
Inpatient Experience


WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif.: 18 February 2009 — Frye Regional Medical Center has been recognized for service excellence under the J.D. Power and Associates Distinguished Hospital Program.SM This distinction acknowledges a strong commitment by Frye Regional Medical Center to provide “An Outstanding Inpatient Experience.”

The service excellence distinction was determined by surveying recently discharged patients from Frye Regional Medical Center about their perceptions of their hospital stay and comparing the results to the national benchmark established by the annual J.D. Power and Associates National Hospital Service Performance Study.SM

“It is critical for hospitals to provide patients with consistently positive experiences,” said Kevin Lieb, senior director of provider programs at J.D. Power and Associates. “Earning this recognition demonstrates the commitment to service excellence held by the doctors, nurses and staff at Frye Regional Medical Center.”

The telephone-based research conducted among Frye Regional Medical Center patients focuses on the five key drivers of patient satisfaction with their overall inpatient experience. These drivers, which were identified in the national study, are: speed and efficiency; dignity and respect; comfort; information and communication; and emotional support.

Frye Regional Medical Center, a 355-bed, for-profit acute-care hospital that serves the Hickory, N.C., area, meets the national benchmark study score for overall patient satisfaction and performs particularly well compared with the national study in treating patients in a speedy and efficient manner. The hospital receives notably high ratings for the promptness of nurses in responding to call buttons, as well as the speed and efficiency of the tests and treatments personnel.

The hospital also performs well relative to the national study in the comfort of its facilities, particularly in concern for patient comfort during procedures. Additionally, among Frye Regional Medical Center patients, 69 percent indicate they have “more” or “much more” trust and confidence in the hospital after their most recent stay.

Nongovernmental, acute-care hospitals throughout the nation are eligible for the J.D. Power and Associates Distinguished Hospital recognition for inpatient, emergency department, outpatient, and maternity services. Distinction is valid for one year, after which the hospital may reapply for this recognition.
