Tips for Choosing between Cable and Satellite TV
According to the J.D. Power and Associates 2006 Cable/Satellite Satisfaction Study,SM most consumers value the option of bundling their voice, data and cable TV services into one bill from one provider.
One of the benefits of using a cable TV provider is the option to seamlessly experience what is known in the industry as "the triple play," which is the ability to bundle various telecommunications services. The emerging bundle of choice for consumers includes local and long distance telephone service, high-speed Internet and digital television.
Benefits to Bundling Services
Simplicity of dealing with a single provider
Receiving a competitive or discounted price for using additional services
Receiving a single bill
Convenience of service experience
Bundling voice and Internet services with cable TV is available through the cable connection already installed in most homes. Bundling with satellite TV is available almost anywhere. Although service bundling is increasingly available with both cable and satellite TV, video and data bundles are more prevalent with cable TV companies, as they have been able to offer these services most often with a single bill and service point of contact.
In the not too distant future, consumers should begin to see total service bundles, which will add cellular service as a fourth service component. These bundles will be offered by both telephone companies (with either their satellite TV partners or through their own facilities) and cable companies (through a telecommunications partner). Service bundling will eventually become an industry standard.
