2011 Ford ModelsHistory
Founded in 1903 by Henry Ford, the Ford Motor Company is the second-largest American automaker (based on sales volume), and the fourth-largest maker of passenger cars and trucks in the world today. During its early years, Ford is remembered as the automaker that launched the "Model A" and "Model T" (the latter a car famous for its use of an automotive assembly line, and its sole-color-choice monolithic black exterior). After the Second World War (a period in time when Ford successfully built aircraft for the military), the automaker introduced models like the infamous Edsel and popular Thunderbird. One decade later, the company welcomed the Mustang-a 2-door sports car that gained such popularity that it is still in production today. In the 1980s, Ford introduced the industry-changing Taurus sedan, followed by the segment-leading Explorer SUV in the 1990s; each has been popular with consumers.

The company's current lineup contains coupes, sedans and sport utility vehicles with up-to-15-passenger seating capacities. Under its Ford brand, the company sells vehicles that operate with gasoline, diesel, and hybrid powerplants. Models include both rear- and all-wheel drive. Headquartered in the United States, Ford manufactures automobiles in Europe, North America, Africa, India, and Asia that are sold around the globe.
