New for 2011-Hyundai
HistoryHyundai, a Korean automaker, is a division of Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group. Founded in 1967, the company is now a full-line manufacturer.
Hyundai first started selling cars in the United States for the 1986 model year in a cooperative effort with Mitsubishi. In 1988, the company introduced its own model, the Sonata. The automaker established a foothold in the marketplace, and soon began expanding its lineup. Its initial model range of economy cars were soon accompanied by sport utility vehicles and larger sedans. Hyundai launched the full-size Genesis luxury sedan and sporty Genesis Coupe in 2009. These were followed by its first high-end luxury car, the Equus, which is designed to go head-to-head against top luxury brands.
Today, Hyundai manufactures a full range of passenger automobiles. They include compact hatchbacks, sports coupes, 4-door sedans, luxury sedans, and sport utility vehicles with up-to-7-passenger seating capacities. Models include both front- and rear-wheel drive, and many offer the option of all-wheel drive. Hyundai vehicles are manufactured in Korea and the U.S. and are sold worldwide.
