Britax Recalls Child Seats Due to Choking Hazard

Child seat manufacturer Britax is recalling several versions of its Advocate 70 G3, Boulevard 70 G3, and Pavilion 70 G3 child safety seats that were manufactured between June 2012, and August 2012, because the chest pad material is too soft and may be bitten or chewed by a child placed in the seat. If a child bites off a piece of the chest padding, it could be a choking hazard. Please reference the list of model numbers at the bottom of this post for complete details about the affected models.

Britax recommends that owners of the affected child safety seats remove the chest pads, also referred to as HUGS pads, and continue using the seat until replacement pads made of a firmer material are sent by the manufacturer. Owners of the affected models who did not register their seats with Britax after purchase may contact Britax Customer Service Department at 1-888-427-4829 with questions or to request replacement pads.

Instructions for proper installation are included with the new HUGS pads. Britax also offers videos showing how to replace the HUGS pads at www.BritaxUSA.com/support/safety-notices. The NHTSA Campaign ID Number for this recall is 12C004.
