IIHS Calls 2013 Ford Fusion a "Top Safety Pick"
The 2013 Ford Fusion is offered in several trim levels and with a number of different powertrains. Depending on whether the car has S, SE or Titanium trim, the Fusion can be equipped with a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine, turbocharged, 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine, or a turbocharged, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine. All-wheel drive is optional with the latter engine.
The Hybrid and Energi models have a gas/electric powertrain. According to the EPA, the Fusion Hybrid is rated to get 47 mpg in combined driving, and can travel at speeds up to 62 mph on battery power alone. The Fusion Energi model is a plug-in hybrid that operates solely on electricity for a short distance before switching over to gas/electric propulsion. Ford expects the EPA to certify the Fusion Energi with a 100 MPGe (miles-per-gallon equivalent) rating when it goes on sale.
The new Fusion is equipped with 8 standard air bags, 4-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes with brake assist, traction and stability control, MyKey programmable safety features, and Sync connectivity with 911 Assist. Safety-related options include a reversing camera, adaptive cruise control system, lane-departure and lane-keeping system, and a blind-spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert.
